OMG! Work is stressing me out from HOME-LONG

So, I don't know what to do about this situation. My doctor wanted me to stop working this week. I called in sick on Tuesday, which was the day my doctor told me she wanted me to stay home. On Wednesday, I called my boss at 9am to let him know what was going on (my assistant and the receptionist are friend of mine, so I have been in constant contact with them) and to tell him that I wanted to take my sick days and vacation days as of Wednesday 4/4. He NEVER called me back! So, I call again and leave him another message today, still no call.

Now, he is a drunk, and his daughter, who is the managing attorney has been on vacation this week, so I haven't been able to speak to her.

I just got off the phone with my assistant and she said he had a MAJOR freak out about how she was on vacation, and that the office is closed tomorrow for Good Friday and how I am sitting at home on my a$$! And how he was going to fire everyone, blah, blah.

Now, I know when my managing attorney comes back on Monday, she is going to demand that I come back to work. But my doctor said I need to stay home and DH would KILL me if I even entertained the thought of going back to work. But what do I do? Should I send the managing attorney an email right now telling her what is going on (my assistant will be away next week)? And they have had eight months to hire a temp for my job...I just don't know how to let them stop stressing me out. And I don't want it to be a problem getting paid! They owe me 3 weeks of vacation and sick time, but they frown on sick days and claim they have to the right to deny vacation time....

I really just don't need this stress right now. I feel bad that they don't have their act together, but it's not my problem, right?

Absolutely send the email explaining the situation- just to CYA. If your Dr. wants you to stay home, then you have to stay home- your health is most important.....

No one has ever said, "Gee- I wish I worked more..." on their deathbed.

Sorry you are dealing with this .....Chat Icon Chat Icon

get a note from the doctor and send them a copy too - just to cover yourself. if your doctor said not to go back - don't. maybe offer to come in a day here & there, if the doctor gives the ok to tie up loose ends?

As an attorney Im sure they will be aware of what can happen to them should they not allow you to have the time off....

Incidentaly should they fire you you would qualify for Unemployment which would be more than the disability and that would last for 6 months!!!!

Im sure everything will work out..BUt what is most important is that you stay home and listen to the doctor.

Sometimes I wish they'd fire me....they'd be doing me a favor. I think I need to look for a new job...after having a baby and then moving...Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's totally not your problem that they have not prepared for you to be out. I've been working with my staff and my boss to prepare for my being out since early March. As it is right now, I could go on leave tomorrow and things would be covered. But if for some reason it wasn't, would I care? NO! It's a job and that should never, EVER come before your health. Sounds like it's not a very healthy working situation for you in the first place. Don't let them stress you out! Chat Icon
