OMG....Now what..........
I just found out that my ING act. was closed out and the balance was mailed to me.......... but I didn't close it.... nor did I receive a check!!! they told me they need to investigate and it will take a few days???? I'm flipping out!!! how could this happen????

Why would they mail a check to you?? Wouldn't the funds have gotten wired back to your primary savings /checking account? Sounds very fishy to me.

I agree. Have you contacted ING directly about this?
ETA: I just googled it and found an example letter someone got from ING when ING closed their account. I read the letter from ING and it states that "Any account balance plus any interest earned on your Electric Orange will be transferred back to your external, linked checking account five business days later." Here is the link
How did you hear that the account was closed? Could it be a fraud to get you to give them your account info? If it was by e-mail, do not click any links, go to the ing website yourself.
Either way, that is scary, I hope you can get this settled soon!

I just want to know what my rights are....how could they close an act and mail my money to someone?????

Have them pull the tapes if the closing request was made via phone. If it was made in writing, you NEED to see documentation. Made onine? You need to get the IP address. They have this info, and your entitled to get it. If they cant provide this, take legal action - PRONTO. Do not sit on this.
BTW, If they said they "mailed" it a month ago & you didn't authorize this, they owe you a months worth of interest.

I was just going to post this, as I closed my ING account 2 weeks ago. I received the same email about how all funds and interest not yet deposited into the account would be transfered to my linked checking. There is no reason for them to send you a check. Find out what is going on ASAP! Did you try logging into your account (not through the email) and see what it says?

I check my bank accounts every day... How did this happen over a month ago?! Demand the documentation IMMEDIATELY.

Oh ok, I was worried it was a scam. Well, I just looked at their terms and conditions, (I have an ING account and don't want this to happen to me!), and it says:
"Closing an Account: You can close your account at any time, for any reason. We can close your account at any time, for any reason and without advance notice."
But while they technically can close the account, they have to give YOU the money if you're the primary owner. I hope then that they figure this out soon, they must have a record of the address tehy sent it to, and whether it was cashed, so hopefully they can just write a check. Sorry you have to go through this, I would be fuming right now!

you have no idea...... I'm friggen losing my mind...........they didn't tell DH anything..just that they needed a few days to investigate......I"M CALLING NOW......

Good luck - demand all the paperwork they have on this!!! You have rights, but sometimes you have to make noise to get them.

You didn't do anything wrong, so you will get your money back. A previous poster was right when she mentioned that ING has to have a record of the attempt to close the account - a phone recording, a letter with "your" signature, or an Internet request that of course has an IP address associated with it. Demand to see this! It will prove that you're in the right.
