one more bar/alcohol question... since the surprise 50th birthday plans have changed
looks like the party plans have completely changed again. i have done a full 360... yes, 360, not 180. i'm back to where i started.
i'm back to party at a restaurant.
my question is this:
the restaurant offers different bar levels and for different periods of time.
i know that guests would love an unlimited open bar for the entire event, but i just can't afford that.
what is the least i can offer without being an asshole? lol
1 beer/wine only
2 premium beer, wine, well drinks (i don't know what a well drink is)
3 top shelf beer, wine, signature cocktails
4 premium (as above) plus up to 3 hand crafted signature cocktails
each option then comes in hourly intervals from 1 to 4
GO.

one more bar/alcohol question... since the surprise 50th birthday plans have changed
What day do the week and time of day is the party? I think that will make a difference.

You need to offer drinks for the duration of the party so go with the option you can afford for 4 hours. If it's just beer and wine that is fine.
Well drinks means mixed drinks made with bottom shelf alcohol. Like a rum and coke with the cheapest rum or a vodka cranberry with the house vodka

I would pick what you can afford to do for the duration of the party. I have been to parties where it is just beer and wine and it's totally fine.

Beer and wine for the duration of the party--guests can pay for cocktails if they want them

I agree with this.
I think you need to offer something the whole time or nothing at all (which obviously isn't ideal)
for my moms 60th we are having it a hall and the price includes just beer wine and soda. They don't offer a liquor package but there is a bar attached to it so if people really want liquor they can go there and get it. We are also doing a signature drink which we will make, they are margaritas. Not sure if the place will let you do that but if they do that's also an option if you want liquor offered

I would do the beer/wine package.
If you have people who drink liquor and you think they may be offended, see if the restaurant will let you run a tab for those drinks and pay at the end of the event.

Do what you can. For my DH 50th, I did a beer/wine package. There were wine bottles on the table and the waiters offered beer options. Anyone who wanted a mixed drink from the bar I had then set up a tab for me. I didn't announce that mixed drinks were available but I knew certain people only drank mixed drinks. surprisingly most people drank the beer/wine and my bar tab wasn't that bad at all, I want to say it was under $100.

beer and wine for duration. I have been to plenty of parties with that option and hosted parties with that option. All were fine and if someone wanted something special then they paid for it.

Either option 1 or 2.
We go to many parties (and host) and there is always some combination of those options. No one is typically doing a full top shelf open bar unless it's a wedding or other super fancy event.
Some kind of alcohol is better than none!
