One more week with Dear Abby and a Dear Abby letter...
Dear Abby,
I walked into your room this morning fully prepared to see you awake and begging for a diaper change. However, I walked in to see you sleeping like a G-d given angel. I swooned with delight.
I have one more week at home with you until I have to go to work. It is not a choice, it is a necessity. I would give anything for the situation to be different and to be the one to care for you, change you, keep you healthy, entertain you and expose you to the world’s experiences during the week from 7am until 4:30 when I will be elsewhere. Daddy and I have done our best to make sure that you will be safe when we are not there. We pray that you will be happy where we have chosen to start your life outside of our home as well as the budding education you will receive there. Leaving you every morning will be very hard for me. I shall miss you immensely.
My heart aches and breaks at the thought that someone else might see you roll over or start to crawl or utter a word for the first time. Your father and I promise that never a moment will go by that we will not think of you and how you are doing without us. I also promise you that I will make the most of this last week we have together.
You are my heart.
You are my love.
You are the most beautiful thing I have ever done in my lifetime.
I am honored and proud to be YOUR mother.

I know the feeling.  Invest in some good waterproof mascara for that first week. I went back the last week of October and the week before that I would cry at the thought of not being with her all day. It will get better with time, although no easier.

Yeah its a darn good thing that my SIL works for Estee Lauder and gets 50% off of everything. Ill need to stock up.

I think you summarized the way every working mother feels that week before they go back to work - it summed up the way i felt! Only thing I can say is that the anticipation building up to that day you go back is worse than the actual day. Once you go back, you will be so busy. Except for the first day, when I got home and saw him, I cried like a baby!

Having gone through this recently, I know exactly how your are feeling.
While you may not believe it now, but you WILL be the one to see her roll over, laugh out lout and every other milestone.
That was my biggest fear too. By some divine power, I've been able to experience first hand major milestones. There will be times where we may miss things.
It's not going to be easy going back. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do. But you can do it and you will. When you want to cry and have a pity party, let me know!!
But what you, I and 1000's of other working moms are doing, is what's best for your family. That's what will get you through!

It is times like these when I feel grateful for the way I grew up. My parents never had to face these types of feelings. I was VERY fortunate.

I could have written this myself, only Dear Julia. I am so sick over going back to work on 12/17, my heart actually aches. I never thought I could feel that pain, I hope it gets more bearable b/c this is torture!

Oh Leslie.... I love your letter. I remember feeling the same way.... That someone else will experience the firsts of everything but it never happened. I would come in and let his daycare know the new things he was doing. It was like with us he thrived, and At daycare he would just try out the new tricks he felt safer doing the first time with us. You will see. It will be hard, but you will always be numero uno and she will love the other kids!
