One or two IUIs?

Is it normal to get one or two IUIs done at a time? I've been reading on here that some of you go in one day for an IUI and then again the following day. The RE never mentioned anything about having a second one done....

Re: One or two IUIs?

I have done 4 rounds of IUI's and 2 of them were just one and 2 were back to back. My RE gave me a choice this past cycle and I chose to do 2. One cycle I had 2 IUI's because my eggs didn't release on the day of the first IUI. Remember that you can BD in addition to your IUI's unless your RE tells you otherwise. GL!

I believe the RE would do back to back IUI's if there is a problem with your DH's SA. My DH has perfectly healthy, normal spermies so we did one IUI just to increase our odds of conceiving and for no other reason than that. Good luck!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: One or two IUIs?

I have had 5 unmedicated IUI cycles 4 of which, I had multiple IUIs. 3 of which I got PG. Apparently, my follicles were of mature size, but were a bit lazy. DH's samples were fine.

#1 IUI - Did not get PG after 1 IUI.

#2 IUI - I had 2 back to back - got PG and had a chemical.

#3 IUI - I had 4 back to back - got PG and had an m/c at 6 wks.

#4 IUI - 2 back to back IUIs - did not get PG.

#5 IUI - I had one IUI on a Wednesday, was told to skip a day unless I surged, which I didnt, came back two days later (Friday) had another IUI and the RE left instructions for the doc on the weekend to give me a trigger shot if I hadn't surged but I surged on Friday night. Needless to say by the time I got there for the IUI on Saturday, despite the fact that I surged, the follicle was still there and I was told to come back on Sunday and by then it had collapsed. I am currently 13 weeks and 3 days PG.

I know of women getting PG from one IUI, but everyone's experiences are different and there are many factors involved - I would imagine even moreso if a woman is medicated. I would not say there is a universal answer or a right thing to do. I would discuss things with your doctor.
