One twin ready for Kindergarten and the other def. isn't
One of twins is definitely not readay for kindergarten but the other is. Not exceptionally ready but ready. He wants to read, knows some sight words and can write his name.
His brother is so different. Has significant OT delays and cannot write his name. Likes me to read to him but cannot remember the sight words. He has less of a drive to learn.
Obviously my concerns are for the mental health of the one I hold back and how he will feel growing up knowing his twin brother is a grade ahead.
I feel like they are separate indviduals and should be assessed separately but again it is such a hard decision to split them up like this.
Anyone have any experience with this or know someone who has?

I have no experience with this but I teach kindergarten. I have a handful of children every year that start the year that can't write their name, identify any of the letters and have no idea what a word is. I have had kids that never held a pencil or picked up a scissor before and they all succeed. By the end of the year they all leave knowing the kindergarten basics and more. I also have children who start the year already reading, write sentences and add and subtract. It's the teachers job to help meet all the kids needs no matter what level they enter at. I would think socially and emotionally it would be better to keep the kids in the same grade and maybe the one struggling can receive some support services if needed such as OT at school.

Totally agree with the Kelly04.
I think it'd do more harm than good to have them in separate grades. Just not a good idea in the social/emotional realm (which is really very important!).
Do they have a late birthday?

Yes they were born 10/29 but were due in December.
This was more of my husband's idea. I agree with you both that it will hurt him socially and emotionally and I spoke to my husband last night. We will not split them up. Either send them together or hold them back together.
The pre-k teacher has suggested holding them back.

I am also a teacher (3rd grade) and totally agree with kelly.. I think you can also voice your concerns for your son having difficulty. Most parents dont know all the rights they have and the services they can receive. K-1 are big learning years. I think you should put them in and see how it goes, esp after reaching out to your district for services.
