Online bill paying
I am thinking of setting this up but have no idea how it works... do I set it up through my bank or do I set up an account with each bill I pay (ex. Mtg co, verizon, etc). Is there a fee to do this?? Is it easier than the old fashioned way I've been doing it now?
I'm completely clueless...

Re: Online bill paying
I normally pay my bills online through the website of whatever bill I am paying. I have accounts set up (at Verizon, DirecTV, Con Edison, etc) that are linked to my checking account. I think it's really easy and fast. I almost never pay by check anymore.

Re: Online bill paying
I only set up automatic payment with some of my bills (cable, gas, electric and phone) because that is the same every month, basically. For my credit cards, I go to each site and pay for that month. they save your info, so you don't have to keep putting it in to the site, so it is basically just a few clicks!
I say go for it! I love paying my bills online and highly recommend it.

Re: Online bill paying
I do mine through my Bank - Bank of America.
You just go into bill pay and fill out the information about each of your payees (address, account number, etc) and then they either send the check hard copy or electronically to those payees.
Super easy and no more stamps!
My program doesn't have a fee, but that's because I have multiple accounts with them.

Re: Online bill paying
We do everything on line. We set up an account with each merchant (FPL, Verizon, mortgage) and then just sign in, send money and done. A lot easier to do then having to worry if they got the check.
Some banks actually allow you to set up all your accounts with them and then just click on your bank account and click the merchant you want to send money too. You can do one or all at one time. Depends on what you want to pay at that time.

Re: Online bill paying
I pay everything online with my band. I've been doing it for at least 15 years that way. Currently with Chase but I'm shopping for a new bank.
I don't even use a checkbook. Maybe I write 2 checks a month usually to a doctor or something like that.

Re: Online bill paying
I would suggest finding out if you do it through your bank, which companies they pay electronically, and which they send a check to. Because you think you are paying the bill ontime sometimes, but the bank may delay sending the check. I've had this happen, and it's a pain to get it all worked out. So I asked which bills are transferred electronically, and all of those that are not, I pay directly on their websites.
