Online coupon code rant!
2 months ago I started looking into train tickets for my parents to come to visit me in Baltimore.
DH found a coupon code online for a "free companion" (via a simple Google search). So I book two tickets, Penn Station -> Baltimore for October 12 for a fantastic $150!
Everything went smoothly with the code, they charged my credit card, and all I had to do was pick up the tickets.
Went to go get them today (as I work near the train station) and the computer kiosk said "couldnt find reservation". When I went to the counter, the Amtrak woman told me the code was only valid for high school students traveling to visit colleges, and requires proof of this when picking up the ticket.
NOT ONCE in the reservation process did this come up. Nor did it come up in the receipt they sent me via email.
Do I have any kind of case if I called them to complain? They'll probably think I was trying to pull a fast one with the code.
You would think that before you make the reservation it would say "Warning: Proof of visiting colleges needed to pick up this ticket".
Argh!

That stinks....... did you print out any of the order info?? I would call and speak with a supervisor....

I don't think there is anything you can do. All codes have restrictions.
However they dissemtanted the code in the first palce ( email to previous customers, flyers at HS, etc) proabably had that information.
People put these codes on the internet & try & get away with using ones that wern't intended for them, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Yeah I agree  I wasn't trying to be devious... had it said "this promotion is for XX" and I didn't qualify I wouldn't continue to try to use it...
The suckiest part is that the regular priced tickets are now much higher than they were back in August when I was making these reservations. Had the system told me I couldnt use the code I would have had MUCH cheaper regular tickets than I do now.
