OOH, MY BLOOD IS BOILING....post from another website I frequent

This is the post

My sister was assaulted in her home the night before last and she wants to have her dog "trained" to protect her. She's got a 3 year old rot/shepherd mix and he hid under the bed the entire time.

How feasible/practical is it for her to have her dog retrained/trained to protect her?

She's scared to death and if her dog can't be trained, she said she's going to look for a new home for him

IS this chick for real? I don't know but this struck a nerve with me....you are going to rehome your dog cause he was afraid??? Not all dogs are "attack" dogs or good protectors. I am glad her sister is okay but that is effed up, IMHO Chat Icon

What on earth... I hope she's exaggerating and wouldn't really give up her pet if he won't learn to be aggressive on command.

wow---that stinks. i mean i'm sure she's having a bit of post-traumatic stress happening....and she has to be angry and hurt at the feeling of someone violating her private home.....but don't take it out on the dog!!! obviously the dog is there as a family pet--not as Rin Tin Tin.

ITA. That poor dog was probably traumatised as much as she.Chat Icon

Hopefully when the initial shock wears off she will realise it is not the dog's fault.

I honestly think that she is not thinking clearly. She is looking for someone to blame and she chose the dog. I bet in a few weeks/months after some therapy and healing she will make a different choice. I know that I personally could not judge someone who just went through that.

Ok, I'm sorry this woman was assualted but OMG it is NOT the dogs fault!!!!! Chat Icon

I can't believe she's contemplating finding the dog a new home because he was afraid and didn't protect her. How can you ask your pet to risk their life for yours?

What an a-hole. You know that dog is probably better off in a home with a family that loves him. Rudy barks if any one comes near the house but you know what. If he hid under the bed if they came in the house i'd be thankful. I remember that news story about the rottie that got shot and killed by someone who broke in the house.

Would she rehome her DH if he was afraid and hid under the bed?!!!Chat Icon

WHAT A POS.

That dog deserves a better home. Steph, please tell me you will lash into her. This is infuriating me.

I am more worried about my dogs if someone breaks in. That is CLEARLY someone who does NOT care about their dog as a FAMILY MEMBER. I would be GLAD if my dogs went to hide to keep themselves safe for me to hug and kiss them!

Please tell her off, I am begging you !!!Chat Icon Please say something, for that dog's sake.

I do too. I think that was in Locust Valley for some reason. I was traumatized when I read that story.

That's terrible. My dogs bark if anyone comes near the house, but I have had an opportunity to find out what they'd do if anyone broke in or whatever, and one hid under the bed, one hid behind me and one went to the door. Oddly enough the one that confronted the intruder was my tiny cocker spaniel (not my 100lb labs!). I still get a good laugh out of that.

I'd rather them hide than confront too, because they are safer that way!

That is terrible. I recently saw a Craigslist ad in which someone was giving up a dog and had only wonderful things to say about the dog, except, "mild mannered, not a watchdog." I could not help but think that might be the reason they were giving up the dog. Chat Icon

Do you think she got a chance to see it? Hopefully some others will tell her, and I hope she saw it. Well you tried. I am still annoyed over this! I keep my dogs with me upstairs b/c I am AFRAID if someone breaks in they will harm or steal my dog. What a POS, it burns me up.

What a jackazzzzzz

I mean seriously, if Cosmo hid under the bed or behind me I could care less. He is my first "baby" and if the intruder did anything to him I'd lose it. Although knowing my dog he'd probably just hump the guy to death Chat Icon

Dogs are pets, part of your family. If you dont feel that way then its time to find a loving home where the animal will be appreciated and respected.

You know what i was thinking too...

then if the dog was aggressive, vicious, attacked someone, a person like that would say "My dog is dangerous, I have to get rid of him". Poor doggies just can't win with people like that. She should be thankful she has a gentle loving dog in her home.

Boy do I wish I could give that jackazz a peice of my mind too. Chat Icon
