oooo stinky - formula help?
last night, DH got smacked because I woke up to a stench in the bedroom and assumed he was farting in his sleep.
but NOPE, it was my son! I could HEAR THEM from across the room.
He's on the Similac Isomil Advance (soy) formula since Saturday and only having BMs once a day, but has the stinkiest gas! Is this normal? I think he may be a little constipated?
He started on regular Similac Advance but it was too harsh on his little belly. Over the weekend he had built up gas that just wouldn't come out and he writhed in pain all night. At 6am, I [deliriously] made him a bottle of the Isomil (soy) because I had a can in the house and I just wanted him to feel better! It worked- he's burping like a champ now.
I'm considering picking up a can of the Similac Sensitive or Enfamil Gentlease: both non-soy and should be easier on the constipation, but i'm not sure if i should change him again.
Already called the ped and was told to just give him whatever he'll tolerate. At this age (2 weeks), it's all just trial and error. If he doesn't have a BM in 3 days or seems like he's in pain (neither yet), I was instructed to stimulate the muscles with the thermometer.
Any suggestions? Advice?
Thanks!

Re: oooo stinky - formula help?
yeah, the stink is normal. DS still rips like a grown man and it can take your breathe away. He was pooping 3-4 times a day at 2 weeks old. Now at 6 1/2 months we are down to 2-3 booms a day.
Personally, I wouldn't switch him again. I would try the soy one you are giving him for a while. To much switching isn't good for their bellies. GL

DD has bad gas issues. Similac Sensitive did the trick for us. It was a Godsend.

We're usgint the same thing due to gas issues but using the sensitive r.s. since she also has reflux. It works wonders.

Re: oooo stinky - formula help?
it all has to do with the soy... if he had a problem with the advanced he'll mostlikely have a problem with some of the other milk based formuals we found that happend with abby. Shes on Enfamil Soy and her farts, poop and even her burps stink! we just got used to it and she she got it from her daddy!

Re: oooo stinky - formula help?
Since BFing didn't go so well for us, the pediatrician told us to use the Similac Sensitive and so far so good...
