OOS wedding starts 5 pm on a Sat & DD is invited
How in the world do we do this? She usually goes to sleep at 7 pm. We're flying to Boston for my best friend's wedding in less than two months and I'm already panicking about what she's going to do while we're there. DD will be 8 1/2 months old for the wedding.
Our flight is at 6:15 pm Friday. So we get there after her bed time. Then the wedding is at 5 pm Saturday -- church, then at a dim sum restaurant (very casual, and DD is invited along -- frankly, we'd have no where to leave her or any way to get a sitter). Should I just plan to stay an hour and then leave since she'll be past her bed time? This is my best friend, though. She also has a daughter who is a month younger than DD but she said someone is bringing her daughter home after the church.
Ugh, why couldn't she have done a day wedding instead??? DH already thinks we shouldn't be going... She was my MOH and I couldn't miss her wedding!! ARGH. I have no idea what to do... which is why I'm asking advice now, super early. TIA!

I would bring her stroller and see what happens. If she's good and falls asleep in the stroller, you stay. If she's being wicked, maybe one of you can go back to the hotel and the other stays for a while? I totally feel for you...we have a fundraiser in September and I'm already wondering how I'm going to make it work!

I agree. You'd be totally surprised where they fall asleep. For some reason, the noise makes Nate fall asleep. Just pack her pajamas and do everything you would when she normally goes to bed. I rock the stroller back and forth and BOOM, asleep.

I would definitely say go! I agree with PP about bringing the stroller for her to hopefully sleep in. I would just play it by ear- you may be pleasantly surprised! And then if need be, maybe your husband could just leave with her and you could stay. Also, 2 months from now, she may be going to bed later- you never know!

I agree with the stroller but my dd won't sleep in it until she is very very tired. But she is really good if there is alot going on and it's past her bedtime. I Would go play it by ear and if she's crazy out of control I would leave at least one of you leave. Or does your friend have a sitter you could use?

I would say bring a stroller and if you cant get her to sleep in it then have DH take her back to the hotel and you take a cab later.

At that age DS was still in his infant carrier and could sleep in it anywhere. Is that an option?

At that age we always put him to "bed" in his stroller if we had an event. The city mini was perfect. Hood down with his blankie he slept through it all with loud music. Sometimes i woul have to walk around with him a fee minutes.

Re: OOS wedding starts 5 pm on a Sat & DD is invited
There are times and place where a bedtime does NOT need to be in place. This is one. I would stay until she became unbearable, then send dh back to the hotel awith her, and let him pit her down.
One night, or two off your routine, will not bother anyone, especially dd.

Re: OOS wedding starts 5 pm on a Sat & DD is invited
I did something like this... DS was a lot younger, it was a good friend's wedding that I could NOT miss.
I took my mom & dad. Paid for a separate hotel room for them, stayed with DS for as long as I could & then gave him to them. We stayed one more night & made a mini-vacation out of it. Yes, it was more $$... but it was REALLY worth it & there were no melt down.

Re: OOS wedding starts 5 pm on a Sat & DD is invited
I recently went to a good friend's wedding in Vancouver and I was worried too (wedding was at 4 pm PST) so he was already out of wack in terms of sleep time. DH was awesome and would just roll with him in the stroller and he would fall asleep. He got really fussy once during the trip other than that he slept when he needed.
We brought out big stroller (city-mini) and he was comfy.
So as other posters have said bring stroller, be flexible, and if she is in good spirits stay if not then you can head back.

actually I would rather go to a wedding with my DS or DD at this age than older...at that age they sleep anywhere...esp in their infant carrier..I would bring the infant carrier (assuming you stiil use it) in the restaurant with you and give a bottle and the noise of the restaurant will prob keep your DC out while you enjoy the wedding!
good luck! Don't stress! It will all work out!

Re: OOS wedding starts 5 pm on a Sat & DD is invited
Like everyone else suggested, I'd bring DD and see what happens...even if that means paying for it the next the day or two. My DD doesn't fall asleep very easy and feeds off a crowd, so I have a feeling she'd be up late, but hey, she has to sleep at some point, right? Bring the stroller, put her in her PJs around her bedtime and if you notice her getting sleepy, maybe DH can take her outside and walk her around the block to help her drift off.

Re: OOS wedding starts 5 pm on a Sat & DD is invited
Thank you all so much! I'm starting to feel a little less nervous about the whole thing.
She probably will still fit in her infant seat so we were going to bring that with the snap n go. But I could bring my big stroller (peg) and the infant seat instead. We planned to rent a car and thought the infant seat would be good to have so we can just strap it in once we get there.
I don't actually make her bed time -- she definitely does it herself. I guess if she's tired enough, she'll just fall asleep wherever.
Now I just have to figure out where she's going to sleep while we're on our trip... she's STILL in the FP rock n play sleeper. Any time we put her on a flat surface to sleep, she flips out and won't sleep. It actually won't be so bad to take with us, but I think she's going to outgrow it any minute now. I'm actually debating getting a graco travel crib (like the pnp but smaller) thinking MAYBE she'd sleep in it since she'll be more cuddled-in.
Silly picky baby.
Thank you thank you so much everyone. I was really freaking out about this whole thing, wondering if we shouldn't even go. But now I'm glad we're going to go. I'll see if my mom would want to go up there that weekend for the wedding, but she can't really babysit so I don't know if that's even worth trying (she says because of her kidney transplant she can't be around a dirty diaper / change a diaper).
