Open Mic Night

Hello, I own a coffee house in Kings Park called the Brown Dog Cafe. My partners and I were thinking about doing an open mic night. Does anyone have experience with this and could give me some pointers in planning and advetising for this. Thanks in Advance!

My DH is in a band called Atomic Fury, and they typically find open mics through myspace.

Some of the local bars send out announcements to LI bands they see are active on the boards (MySpace) and draw crowds in that way.

Also, publicize in the local music scene paper - Good Times Connection - so bands can see that.

Make sure you have a sound guy available to check sound, etc.....and it wouldn't hurt to have a drum set avail (to lessen down time btw bands) but it won't hurt you to NOT have one. Most drummers are willing to bring their own stuff.

If you want any recommendations on sound guys, I know a few or where you can find some.
