Opening gifts?
Abby's party is in 3 weeks and it looks like we will have about 40 guests. I am sure that everyone will bring a gift. The question is do I have Abby open them during the party or after when everyone has gone home?
I know it is fun to watch them open gifts and people like to see their gift being opened but she is one and will not open them herself and if I do let her open them herself we will be there till her 2nd b-day. What would you do?
My gut says let her open the gifts but I am afraid it will take half the party and people will be bored.

Re: Opening gifts?
We opened Sarah's gifts, but we only had about 20 people. But everyone kept asking when we were opening them, they were so excited to see her playing with their gift.
Sorry, I'm not much help!

Re: Opening gifts?
We did not open gifts at her first birthday party, it would have taken a while and I thought it would kinda drag. We had about 45 people, no one minded at all.

Re: Opening gifts?
My kids don't open gifts at their parties, I've found that it gets too crazy... everyone wants to play with them and then something gets lost or broken, or the birthday child gets upset because other kids are playing with "their" toys or whatever... so they open them after everyone leaves at their own pace so that they can play with each thing... it took Mallory 3 days to open all her presents , I just let her do it when she wanted to... otherwise they get bored with it. I didn't find that people minded, we sent thank you cards.

Re: Opening gifts?
Thank goodness. I really did not want to open them but I thought everyone would think I was rude or something if we didn't. I feel better. If I am rude at least I will not be alone.

Re: Opening gifts?
I don't think Jared will be opening his gifts in front of everyone....it's going to be outside.

Re: Opening gifts?
We did not open Kevin's gifts at the party - he couldn't really do it and it didn't make sense at my party. No one even asked. After everyone left - just immediate family hung around and we opened up some together (my MIL kept asking to open them) but Kev got bored very quickly and preferred to climb on my coffee table for a laugh instead!

Re: Opening gifts?
We open gifts afterwards for any party involving other kids. If there is a special gift that someone wants them to open or wants to see you open, pull them aside & open it separately.
