Opening your pool

This is the first time we are opening our semi-inground pool. Do you hire someone to open or do you do it yourself? We made an appointment to have someone open it next week and received an email from them detailing the pricing with what is included. DH now thinks he can do it himself to save the money. Given the detailed list, it actually seems pretty simple to open, especially since they are charging extra to vacuum, etc...

Re: Opening your pool

We have an in-ground pool, but I pay to have it done now. It is super easy to open and get it setup, but anytime we tried to open it ourselves, we could never get the water to clear up right away. It always cost us a ton in chemicals and ended up being more hassle than it was worth. I would even try bringing the water to be tested, they would have me buying over $100 in chemicals and more shock. Not to mention the time it would take - weeks of going back and forth. So I just pay to have it done.

There's no harm in trying it yourselves though since you haven't done it before. Worst case scenario, you have to pay for a service call to get it running right. A service call is cheaper than the opening cost.

We had issues last year when we moved into our house so we are having some open our above ground this year and prob pay them to maintain it this year until we can get a good idea of how its done.

Thanks everyone! We ended up opening it ourselves last weekend. The water was very clear when we took the cover off, so we just had to fill it a bit and DH got the chemical levels right. I think we’ll hire someone to close the pool though cause that seems a little more complicated.

I probably could do it myself, but I figured I paid so much for the pool, I would rather leave it to a guy I trust.
