Opinions needed Please-Thoughts on Pull-ups

I was hoping to get opinions on whether or not you think using Pull-ups are necessary or even beneficial when Potty Training.

I'm on the fence... I've tried them- the ones that have the velcro on the side and all DD does open the pull-up from one side...seems like it is a new toy to her.

Do you guys think that they really help with potty training?

Should I continue with regular diapers until she is ready for big girl underwear?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Opinions needed Please-Thoughts on Pull-ups

I think using pull ups makes the process longer since they still absorb and are an easy way for kids to just still use the diaper. I would buy some of the gerber training pants with plastic outside to start out. THey are like thick underwear that wont leak, but will immediately make the child feel uncomfortable and wet and dirty.

Or you can just go straight to underwear and plan to stay at home for about a week and just every hour put them on the potty. I found this method to be the best.

But the thing that made Jack train in a matter of a day after weeks of hit or miss was the video "Potty Power". Totally worth the investment!

Thanks for your input! I really appreciate it.

Can I ask you where I can get the gerber training pants?

I assume Potty Power I could find at amazon.com

Does anyone else have an opinion?

Re: Opinions needed Please-Thoughts on Pull-ups

We have been sucessfully potty training my DD the past 2 weeks and we only use pull ups for nap time and overnight, also she will ask for one if she has to #2 since she wont do that on the potty yet. All other times she has regular underwear on and I think this has made the difference becuase if she has an accident she immediatly feels it and tells me as she runs to the bathroom to finish going, when the pull up is on, she knows and uses it the same as a diaper.

Re: Opinions needed Please-Thoughts on Pull-ups

I only used the pull ups for nightime and nap time because she thought the pull ups were just cool diapers and she would go in them and they are not absorbent so she was better off in undies. I stressed that they were "special" and emphasized that they were not diapers and I called them panties. She potty trained really fast before she turned 3.

They sell them just about everywhere. I would get some rubber ones to go over top of them also since urine smell is hard to get out of carpet, furniture, etc.!

I agree that they prolong the process. I put Maddie's "big girl" underwear on & the pull-up over them so she would feel uncomfortable when she was wet. Worked like a charm.

Ohh that's even better! I'll have to remember that for DD in a few years.

Re: Opinions needed Please-Thoughts on Pull-ups

We did the pull-ups for a while. Like the other posters, I think it just prolongs the process. They are just big diapers. When we switched to real underpants and the plastic cover pants, things went a lot faster.
