Opinions needed....Baptism Invitations...
DH and I have chosen to baptise our son. We are of different religions and DS will be tought both in our house, but we have chosen to baptise him as well. All that a side. We are baptising him this summer and inviting just family ( very small group) but would like to do a BBQ at the house afterwards to celebrate. I prefer not to have a very religous invitation, no cross or dove. Would it be inappropriate to word the invitation something like..
Please join us for a Barbeque to celebrate Joe Smiths Christening.
This way guests would be invited to the BBQ but not the actual christening.
Am i making a big deal out of nothing? For some reason its not sitting right..

So you would want people to celebrate with you but not witness the sacrament?
IMO, i would insulted if you invited me to the christening party and not the church. The party is to celebrate baby's welcoming into god's church and taking his/her 1st sacrament.
It's like inviting people to your wedding reception, but telling them don't bother coming to church to witness us get married on the same day.
Sorry
Dh and I are interfaith, so i know you could be torn on what to do, but Dh and i agreed if we choose to do one religion the traditional way we do it all the way. I'm catholic and dh is jewish, we are raising our kids catholic but they will learn and participate in jewish customs and holidays.

I have to agree. We were once invited to the party and not the church. I thought that was weird.
