Opinions: New Mommy Gift
What do you think is the best gift for a new mommy and baby?
Out of the hospital about two weeks...we were thinking of flowers for the mom, outfit for the baby, but I feel like that's "boring."
After you came home, what do you think was the most helpful?

Re: Opinions: New Mommy Gift
Food. Seriously. Flowers are lovely but I found myself staring at them wondering how they'd taste. Once DH went back to work the biggest challenge was trying to feed the baby (EVERY 2 HOURS) and feed myself with whatever we had in our cabinets. You quickly learn to find foods that require only 1 hand, so I've eaten a LOT of hot dogs, pizza, and similarly nutrition deficient items!!
A nice meal from a local restaurant is perfect, or even one of those EDIBLE ARRANGEMENT centerpieces are GREAT, healthy and GORGEOUS!!!!

this sounds fantastic - thanks so much!
I think I'll prepare a bunch of food (home-made) and put it in the freezer, so she can pop it in her microwave and be done.

I know when my sister had her baby, what she found helpful was that I made her some meals but I also separated them into smaller portions so they could choose what they wanted for dinner any particular night and just defrost what they needed.

A good family friend of ours hired a cleaning lady for my sister for 3 months after the baby was born, she came every 2 weeks. It was a GOD send.......
I'm hoping she will do the same for me

Re: Opinions: New Mommy Gift
I've heard food before, hence why when we visit friends in the hospital we give a gift card to a rest (w/takeout) and an outfit.

This is what I did for my sister last year when she had her baby, she said it was one of the bests gifts she received and plans to do it for us when this baby is born

Food!!! Meals that all we had to do were heat and serve were the most appreciated since the last thing I wanted to do was cook anything.

Mani/Pedi Gift card- after i have babies i like to spend an hour or 2 and get my nails done and go tanning, just to feel a little more human looking.
EDT: Food is always good too- especially if there are other kids in the house, at least you dont have to worry about cooking for them.

Re: Opinions: New Mommy Gift
Here are things I would have LOVED to have gotten
A gift certificate to a spa A cleaning lady to come a couple of times A gift card to Ann Taylor to buy some regular clothes
ETA- About the food- either homemade or GC to place that delivers. My MIL and sister both got us those frozen delivered meals. My sister's brand weren't too bad but my MIL's were inedible. We had to throw them away. I really wished one of them would have gotten me a maid with the money
