Opinions on a letter I am sending

Hello,

My Mother lives a few miles from your store and is in a wheelchair due to recovering from a year-long issues with infection and multiple surgeries in her spine. She went to your store two times and found no charged motorized carts for her use.

The first time she asked to speak with a Manager and was told that it was the customers responsibility to return the cart and charge them. Please explain to me how a customer who is handicapped or confined to a wheelchair is supposed to be responsible for charging these carts? The second time she arrived at your store, again, there were no charged carts for her to use. She ended up shopping at Food Lion, where they made reasonable accomodations for her diability with a cart available for her use. I would like to know what you plan to do to rectify this situation and also inquire what the corporate standards are regarding these motorized carts. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

I believe this explains the situation sufficiently-let me know if you have any questionsChat Icon

Re: Opinions on a letter I am sending

I think i would add in the beginning a kind of opening statement.

Such as,

I am writing this statement on behalf of my mother, concerning an issue that has deeply saddened and inconvenienced her.

I'm sorry about your mom, first Chat Icon and what an obnoxious statement for the manager to make.

Here's the only part I might edit:

"I would like to know what you plan to do to rectify this situation "

The language just sounds a bit charged (eek that's a terrible pun I just made there) and may put off whoever reads it.. I might edit it a bit along the lines of...
I find the manager's response both inappropriate and unhelpful, and I'm assuming your corporate office would want to know about the situation so that handicapped shoppers receive the courtesy they deserve.

I agree with this - maybe phrasing it as a question too. After Colette's sentece above, I might add (instead of "I would like to know what you plan to do to rectify this situation and also inquire what the corporate standards are regarding these motorized carts,") "Do you have a plan to rectify this situation? What are the corporate standards regarding these motorized carts?"

Also, I'd break that into a separate paragraph (everything after the Food Lion sentence) just for easy reading/organization of thoughts, and somewhere in there I think I caught "diability" instead of "disability."

But overall, good letter. I hope they get back to you and try to make it right going forward!

Thanks everyone for your responses. Colette-when I said "rectify the situation" I meant for them to get on that Manager's arse and have him keep those carts charged, nothing legal or anything like that.

I actually think the letter should come from your mother.

That is not possible at this time...or are you saying I should pose as her?

I would only sign the letter with her permission.

Were you there with her? If not, I'd get your mom's permission to send the letter in her name. JMHO. Not sure it will make a huge difference either way.

Re: Opinions on a letter I am sending

Like the edits that were made, IMO it should seem like it is coming from your Mom and please don't flame, the "s" is missing in disabilityChat Icon

Agree with the above - one little typo -

"reasonable accomodations for her diability"

You're missing the "s" in there...

Re: Opinions on a letter I am sending

I'd leave out the reason why she is in a wheelchair.
No one's business, and it doesn't matter WHY.
The carts should be charged. Period.
