Opinions on these decorating ideas
Looking for some opinions on the following ideas. I have 3 bedrooms to redo in the next 2 weeks and have been debating:
1) DD room: 2 colors separated by a chair rail. Top color yellow, bottom color pink White chair rail (which will match the baseboards & crown moulding.
2) DSs room: beadboard wainscoting on bottom half (baseboard on bottom, chair rail on top. All one color, light blue except for the baseboard & crown moulding which will be white. (Chair rail will be blue too)
3) Our room: baseboard & crown moulding will be white. Chair rail in the middle. The walls and chair rail all green (BM Dill Weed)
My questions are:
My DDs room is pretty small. Anyone know if anything I described above will make the room appear smaller?
In DSs room, I was originally going to paint the wainscotting red, top half blue & white chair rail but now I dont know how I feel about the red. I do want the wainscotting & chair rail there for more dimension to the walls but does all one color sound like it will look nice?
In our room, same as DSs room, does the chair rail matching the walls sound nice? I def dont think I want a white one in there so if I dont do it to match, I think I am better leaving it off.
Any opinions????? Thoughts? Obviously it looks good to me in my minds eye but I need some feedback from other people with a vision.
DH has no opinion or vision so I need help LOL
TIA

Re: Opinions on these decorating ideas
I think your DD's room sounds like it will look great.
I think I would paint the wainscoting in your DS's room a different color from the wall to make it stand out. If you don't want red, maybe just paint it the wainscoting and chair rail white?
In your room I wouldn't even bother with the chair rail if you're just going to paint it the same color as everything else.

Re: Opinions on these decorating ideas
I went on ratemyspace on HGTV's website and pulled some kids rooms with wainscoting or a chairrail. I was trying to find the colors you wanted but wasn't too lucky. Nonetheless, perhaps these pictures would give you ideas. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Opinions on these decorating ideas
I think if your DD's room is small, cutting the room in half with two colors and a chair rail may only draw focus to that point. I would paint her room all one color...and if it's really small, I would go ahead and paint her ceiling the same color as the walls - that way it gives the illusion of more space b/c the eye doesn't see where the color ends.
If you're going to go through the trouble of adding an architectural point such as beadboard, I would paint it a different color than the wall - or forego it entirely.
I like the idea of the red & blue for your son...very all-american, baseball, plaid curtain, look.
