Opinions on toy storage for playroom
I'm trying to make better sense of DD's toys in the playroom. Right now they are pretty much just dumped into a toybox (with the exception of her dress-up clothes and books). Here are a few pics of the room so you get a feel for how it looks. It doubles as our guest room (the couch pulls out to a bed)
And here are the toy bins I'm considering. I'm also going to put 2 shelves above this bin for the larger items.
1 - Pastel colors
2 - Bright pastels
3 - Espresso finish
I guess I'm wondering if I should do "kid" colors for the storage unit or if I should try to keep it in line with the "feel" of the room.

Re: Opinions on toy storage for playroom
i have one of those types of storage things for eddie. Just keep in mind they are only really good for small items....for him, legos, cars, figurines, small balls, that kind of thing.

Re: Opinions on toy storage for playroom
I'd get the kid colors now - you can change out the bins as they get nasty or your DC gets older.
DS has a similar storage thing w/ bins and he will tell you if something is in the wrong bin...great storage

Re: Opinions on toy storage for playroom
I got this storage system from Target for my kids toys. 9 cube esresso cabinet It comes in a few different colors. I then purchased 9 bins in three colors, beige, taupe and brown. I have the toy storage in my living room. It looks great. You could do this in white with colorful bins as well. two pack of bins

This was actually my first choice. But then as I thought about it more, I was afraid that the toys would still be "lost" in the bins, and not played with. With the toys in the toybox, nothing other than the few items on top are played with because she can't see them. I kind of thought that at least if she could see the stuff, it would at least be getting used, rather than just being wasted. I've actually noticed in the past 2 days since I started cleaning everything out, that she is again interested in things she hasn't seen in a while. I agree though that the above 9 cube organizer WOULD look best.

I made it myself (or rather, Santa's elves did it). I just got a quart of chalkboard paint from Home Depot, painted it on the wall and then bought those stick-on things from Michaels in polka dots and made a pattern around the chalkboard. It was so simple, and really a lot of fun. The "chalk-holder" is just a shelf I got from HD.

Re: Opinions on toy storage for playroom
I have number 1, but it is DD's room so it matches.
For your room I would do number 3.
DD loved the bins bc all her little toys were in a basket, now she can see what there is.
BUT - it only holds smaller toys, big balls, trucks, stuffed animals etc will not fit.

Re: Opinions on toy storage for playroom
So far we have had the 9 cubby thing 4 days and it has been working well. They have rediscovered lost toys. It has made my new policy of one box for each kid out at a time really easy. It has let us focus on playing with something and enjoying it. I hear you about letting them see the toys. I just started to feel like they were getting overwhelmed with all the toys we had. They would give one toy very little attention before moving to the next one, now they are really playing with the toys they have out. From what you posted I would go with the third one because you can transition it more for when they are older. However the colorful ones are fun. I think it depends upon what room you put the organizer in, if it is a true play room, then I would go for color, if it is a multipurpose room then I would go for a more traditional look.
ETS: What you mentioned about the toy box is spot on for us too. They only see what is on the top of the box not everything inside. Also the 9 cubby one fits chuck the talking truck as well as medium sized balls and many stuffed animals.
