Opinions please: WR: Social faux pas?

I'm going to a wedding and I know the bridesmaids are wearing long chocolate brown gowns. I have a dress that I had wanted to wear that is empire waist, with chocolate brown on the top with a beige lace overlay, and the bottom is chiffon-like, flowy chocolate brown that falls just above my knee. The picture below is pretty much the dress except for the color.

Is it inappropriate to wear this since I know the BM's are wearing chocolate brown?

honestly, i am torn. brown is not a "stand-out" color. i don't think it will be that obvious. i say go for it!

Because it's not a long dress, I say yes to wear it.

I think it's fine. There are only rules about wearing white.

eta...for example: if the bridal party is wearing black, guests are not expected to not wear black. kwim?

It's really pretty dress!

Thank you and yes I know exactly what you mean b/c my BM's wore black and I certainly took no issue with anyone wearing a black dress. I would have had a serious problem on my hands if I did! LOL

Thanks ladies!

Re: Opinions please: WR: Social faux pas?

I was worried about the same thing at a recent wedding so I changed the dress I was going to wear because I found out the bridesmaids would be in the same color family
Well I was surprised at how many people had on the same color as the girls. Thinking about it I was like- "well how would they know what color the bridesmaids were wearing if they didn't ask?"

My theory is- if you aren't close with the bride and didn't know what color the girls would be wearing - you might wear the same color by accident.

I think it's perfectly fine.

no not at all! brown is not a vivid color and with the design you described- I doubt anyone would think twice!

I think it would be fine if you wore it. It's different enough from the bridesmaid dresses.

Re: Opinions please: WR: Social faux pas?

It's absolutely fine -
I've worn red dresses to weddings where the BP ended up wearing red ......Who cares?

I don't call ahead and ask the color scheme before deciding on my attire -
