Organic, cage free, free range eggs?
I am slowly venturing back into lacto ovo vegetarianism after being vegan for a long time. I am running and working out so much I really need the protein.
I have begun eating dairy, but decided to eat eggs again.
Does anyone know where on long island, wester Suffolk area, where I can find legitimately organic, free range, cage free eggs? The reason I became vegan was because of the cruelty associated with the dairy and egg industry. If I am going to eat eggs, I am hoping to get them from a reliable source. My son's friend's mom owns a farm in smithtown, so I was going to contact her, but wanted to see if there was some place closer to Northport/Huntington area.
Thanks!

whole foods, wild by nature, even most supermarkets now carry legitimate organic products. and check out the cornucopia institute online for brand info, and more information.

What about Makinajian Famrs on the h-ton/n-port border?

My Mom often gets eggs from here and swears they are better than the organic/cage free ones the super market sells.
I drive by this farm a lot and all their birds and animals roam free in the yard and parking lot. I guess if they really wanted to they could leave, so they are definitely not caged at all.
They do kill chickens here but supposedly in a humane way.

I think you should ask if the chickens are feed a vegetarian diet as well if that matters to you. My eggs are organic and cage free. My hens live a very humane lifestyle bordering on luxurious lol but my hens eat some meat (organic or all natural cooked meat that is leftover is feed to them instead of getting thrown out). They also eat bugs and even frogs but that happens with all free range chickens.
I know there is a poultry farm in kings park, but I don't know if they are humane in their practices. Sometimes keepers of backyard flocks will advertise eggs on craigslist. It's technically illegal to sell any food labeled as organic if you aren't approved by the USDA so you might only get a verbal promise, not a tag saying organic.
