"Organic" Spray Tan
One of my co-workers who is also pregnant recently came in sporting a gorgeous spray tan.
I asked her if her Dr. said that was ok and she told me that the spray was all "organic" so why would he have a problem with it.
Has anyone ever heard of this? I am in a wedding in a few months and would LOVE to be tan, but I am scared to put any chemicals on my body
ETA: She was sprayed in a salon.

I'm not sure if it's a big deal, but call your doc first just to be safe.

Re: "Organic" Spray Tan
I know the beach bum tanning by my house has a woman there airbrush tanning and she said that everythign they use is natural, such as sugar cane etc...My mom freaks out that I do it once in a blue moon, but I do and did have a couple of weddings that I do it for!
Just check with the place doing it and ask what ingredients are in the products they use

Re: "Organic" Spray Tan
ok, maybe I've been in the lab too long, but I do not feel comfortable taking the word of a salon person as my health guarantee. They believe what the marketers have stated 'it's natural / orgainic'. well, that's fine, but so is digitalis, and I don't think it's fine to swallow those pills during pregnancy! Some of the ingredients in 'organic' and 'natural' stuff are not that inoccuous at all, and in the lab, would require gloves and special handling.
Frankly, Dr's also usually don't give it a second thought. they only say something is not safe after the lack of safety has been reported by the FDA or NIH. So, when no one STUDIES the problem, there ISN'T a problem. See the flaw in that logic? that's why hair and food dye is considered safe. I find that stuff particularly amusing. Dyes are almost universally toxic. the most obnoxious chemicals in our lab are a few neurotoxins used in nerve studies, a couple heavy metals, but hands down the most dangerous is our collection of DYES!
So, becuase of that, I would err on the side of caution and avoid the spray tan while pregnant. The skin absorbs a lot and passes it through the blood stream. I would avoid spraying your whole body with something untested by the medical community.
sorry about my safety spiel.... my rant is now over
