Orton-Gillingham
Does anyone teach in a school that uses the Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory approach to teaching literacy?
If you do can you tell me what district you're in. Thank you! I appreciate it!

My district has used it in the past... it all depends on the kid and what works for them. I had a kid that was severely dyslexic and it did nothing for her.
We mainly use Wilson... which has worked wonders for the above mentioned child and others.

You don't need to be certified in those areas. Wilson is a decoding only program. it does not focus on comprehension, so you don't need to be an English teacher. Many special educators and reading teachers use this, but really any educator can implement Wilson. It is a two-year process, but well worth it in my opinion. Two teachers in my dsitract have Wilson groups at school as well as doing it outside of school and make great money doing it. It is a very specialized program that really works.

Many districts use Orton Gillingham type programs for their special education population, especially kids with dyslexia. I don't know of any that use it across the board for all kids.

even if you have to pay for it, i think it's well worth it, because in addition to doing Wilson work at school, you can do it privately and make very good money. also, learning centers and reading clinics would hire you for it.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. I already do tutoring but if I was Wilson certified I could tutor in Wilson and charge more money. Plus, I think it's a really good program and would help me with my kids in school too. I just know the training is a lot of money. I keep hoping my district will decide to send me for the training! I guess I can keep hoping.

they use it in rockville centre
when i was there it was used for Kindergarten and 1st grade (could have been used for more grades than that but im not sure) but they used it whole class
