our 10 week old puppy is biting and barking and hurting
i love her but she's a little vicious! She bites and she bites hard. Tore through some pants and shirts and then growls at us. she's a aussie/retriever and sooo cute, but this is out of control. How do we make it stop. She doesn't listen to "no" or "ouch".

When she does this, grab her snout and close her mouth and tap her on her snout and say no.
But do not coddle her after you do this. Do it repeatedly if need be but not viciously.

Try saying "ouch" in a high pitch yelp-like manner. Puppies learn bite inhibition from other dogs--when they bite another dog too hard, the dog will yelp. The theory is that if you mimic this, the puppy will realize she's playing too rough. I did it with my dog and it seemed to help.

I will also recommend talking to a trainer. We took puppy class at pet smart and it helped US become better puppy parents.
You must be firm with your dog and show her who is boss. The previous posters are right with their advice. It's exactly what we did with our dog. The high pitch simulates the dog being in a litter and "learning" from other puppies what's appropriate and correct behavior.

She might need to be around other well socialized dogs so she learns not to bite so hard. Also when you're doing the high pitched Ouch do you walk away and ignore her?

We did this with our mouthy pitt, Lucy, and it helped. Supposedly, it mimics a dog putting another dog in his place by biting (lightly) his muzzle. We would also give her something she was allowed to chew on instead so she would know the different.
With our collie mix, saying "Ouch!" loudly helped. To this day, if we're playing and he gets a little rough I'll yell "Ouch!" and he immediately stops and takes a step back with this bewildered look on his face. It's too cute.
ETA: I also recommend being around other well socialized dogs. I think this did more for both of them than any of our training. Since our collie was first, he was socialized with my parents' dogs. When we got our pit, our collie showed her the ropes.

Re: our 10 week old puppy is biting and barking and hurting
my dog does not tolerate puppies well, and my sister coddled her dog so whenever we had our dogs together and her puppy would jump all over my dog, my dog would react by growling (never biting) but basically telling her pup to BTFO and of course her pup cried and ran away. To me that's the best way they learn boundaries but my sis was like "OMG your dog is HURTING my dog!!" My dog is the most well behaved dog on the planet...
ANYWAY, sorry for ranting LOL. There's a technique where you don't hit, you kind of quickly jab near the shoulder and say NO. It's what their mom would to with her snout if the pup were getting out of control. Also, don't lower your head under theirs it makes them think they have dominance. If you're on the floor with her, and she starts jumping and nipping get up and walk away.
Ceasar Milan is going to be at the Westbury Theater Friday, I wonder if you can still get tix?
