Our Electicity blew a fuse....again
For the 3rd time this summer we popped the breaker on the electricity in our apartment...
Of course, on one of the hottest days of the summer...
Landlords aren't home. I don't have access to the breaker box because it is in thier part of the house.
I just called and left a message on thier machine asking them to flip it when they get home....
I put on the electric kettle while the AC was running --- to boil water for the babies bottles for the day....
Right now it is not unbearable up here but it is going to get WORSE!
ETA: I wish my family didn't all live so far so that I could just go to one of thier houses for the day....also what baout the fridge! How long can the food stay Ok inside with no electricity?

If you do not open the fridge then you have a couple of hours. As for the freezer stuff, if it thaws then you have to cook it if it is meat.
That it pretty dangerous that you cannot have access to your electrical when the landlords are not home. I am sorry you have to deal with this today!

Uggh. Is there anyway for the landlord to come home on their lunch or something. Honestly if they have an apartment they need to be able to accomodate the electricity needs for 2 families especially since you pay extra for the A/C.

Oh no! That's horrible If I wasn't going out all day, I'd tell you to come here with that little cutie of yours! How far is your closest family member?

Re: What to do..what to do...
I just called thier house and both of thier cells so hopefully they'll get the message. I don't mind leaving once it gets bad and just walking around the nearest mall...I'm concerned about all the stuff in the fridge though because they both work long days and some nights don't come home till 8pm or so...
Nearest family member is right here in Levittown but it's my FIL and he only has AC in his bedroom ... and I'm not hanging out my my FIL's bedroom all day with the baby...
Other then that my Brother's house in Medford....so I might end up going out there today....
I wonder if this used to happen to the old tenants! They had 1 more AC then we did!

So sorry you have to deal with this! Try not to open the fridge or freezer that much. Hopefully the food should last all day.

Re: Our Electicity blew a fuse....again
If you leave the fridge closed you are good for 24 hours.
Appliances that heat up... irons, flat irons, hair dryers, kettles, toasters, waffle makers require a lot of power to heat up that quickly. That surge of power, combined with the AC is causing the circuit breakers to blow. Avoid using all such appliances when running the AC.
When I lived above my Dad's house I couldn't use any such appliances AND have the AC on at the same time or the same thing would happen.

Re: Our Electicity blew a fuse....again
Thanks everyone---I called my landlord's cell and he came home and flipped the switch for us. I feel so guilty and bad about calling him for this....but I know I couldn't just sit here in the heat with no electicity so it had to be done.
Right now everything is off except for the AC---running the laptop on battery----
I usually turn the ac off now after the last 2 incidents when i use the microware, toaster, vacuum, but didn't even think of it when I use the kettle---since we do that DAILY and it hasn't happened yet.
What a pain in the neck! I don't want sumemr to be over, but I can't wait for this heat to break!

Re: Our Electicity blew a fuse....again
I feel your pain. Sometimes the fuse just blows w/ just AC on if there is a power surge or something - it's SO annoying- gotta love the older houses. there are only 3 circuits for my entire 2 bedroom apartment- i don't think that is enough.... I know my mom had her house set up so that each AC was on a different circuit.

Uggh, I feel your pain, but I am glad its back on. I used to live upstairs in a similar situation and it was a pain. I had central AC, but if I used my microwave with anything else in the house, I blew a fuse. The landlady was 96 years old and it took a year and a day to get through to her!
Stay cool!
