Our turtle adventure!
Yesterday morning my neighbor came over to get Ray because her husband wasn't home and their dog had a turtle in his mouth!!!! Ray went over there and after like 15 minutes finally got the turtle from the dog!
We were on our way out to a christening, so we just put him in a bucket and left. When we got home we were going to bring him to a wooded area somewhere to let him go, but then we saw that their dog and bitten right through the shell and it was bleeding a little bit. He also bit through the underneath shell also and it was cracked I looked up online about injured box turtles and it gave me such great info, how to clean him and to put a bandaid on the hole, and to NOT relocate him and never let a turlte with a cracked shell go free...Thank god for the internet!!! I caught some earthworms for him to eat! Then we called the reptile rescue and they told us to drop him off at the Selden 24-hr vet and they would pick him up from there.
I am so happy that we saved him

Thats amazing!! when I was home last year my dad found a turtle in our neighbors back yard and he brought it to our house, in the end I let it go (it was fine and eating lettuce) and this is in Western Nassau County! I lived there for 20 something years and never saw any kind of wildlife!

Here's a pic of him... isn't he cute!!!
You can see the hole and blood right on the bottom.
I was so shocked this turtle lived in my neighborhood! And I was also shocked that my neighbors dog was trying to eat the turtle... their dog is a basset hound! Image Attachment(s):

awww you guys did a good thing i would have tried to help him too. I love turtles.
Yesterday Casey caught a toad in our yard and my mom was able to get it out of her mouth...but the toad foamed in Casey's mouth  The toad lived!
