Our Variances Were Approved WE START CONSTRUCTION ANY DAY NOW!!!!
So FH and I bought our house in August, Its in massapequa.
We submitted our architect plans in september, after months of waiting, and a public hearing, and then going door to door to about 15 neighbors withing a 200 foot radius. THEY finally approved us!!!! We start any day now, just finalizing some last minute things.
Its a huge project and our dream home, we are doing a basement, 1st floor and 2nd story addition.
We have a traditional cape style home.
it will be a 4 bedroom colonial with 3.5 baths when we are done.
Here are some pics
Before
Architect plans front of house, cultured stone half way up too.
Back of the house, with 2 sliders to backyard. 
First floor plans, all open floor plan with formal livingroom, dining, huge kitchen, family room and mudroom
2nd floor plans, with master suite with fireplace, huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub, his and her walk in closets, 3 bedrooms that share a bath

Those plans look great - very spacious. Good luck with your construction! We started ours two weeks ago and what a mess - very stressful too but I know it will be worth it when it's done.

No, the basement doesn't count. 3500 feet!? That's awesome!! My house is the same as yours (although we have a small rear dormer upstairs and a full bath). I can't wait to see the progress of your construction!! (I'm living my "dormer dreams" vicariously through you! ) Do you know how long it will take?

My FH is wiring our house to be a smart home, it will talk to us, and be controlled remotely, we are doing each room with different heating/a/c zones, we are also doing a tri-level backyard with inground pool and separate jacuzzi
we are doing a circular driveway as well.
We are getting one of those Paintings thats really a flat tv hidden underneath too. and also we are doing radiant heat throughout and in all the bathrooms as well.
Its a HUGE project and as soon as we start breaking ground i will be updating with more pictures!!!!
I will also post the backyard plans as wel

Holy!!  I need to win the lottery to have all of that!!  Maybe my kids can pay for their own college tuition. 
It really sounds fantastic! I wish you luck with the process! You're not going to be living there while they do it are you?

YUP we are living there, We have a really nice finished basement, and as soon as they dig out the back and pour the foundation they are going to put a nice bathroom downstairs so we can use it. Then they will just gut the whole first floor. cause we need a bath.
I do not need a kitchen, we will put our refrig downstairs, i have a micro, hotplate, toaster oven and foreman grill.
i dont cook so im not worried about a kitchen.
As long as i have my bed, my computer, and my dog i think i will be good.
Its a huge project, and Totally FH's idea, i like the house the way it is, he plans on living here for a long time, so we arent trying to flip it or make a profit. we just want to live comfortably.
