outlet adopter for UK?

Hi all - I am traveling to the UK in 2 weeks and want to make sure I buy the right adopter to make sure my cell phone can charge. Are they all universal?

Thanks!

no - look for an adapter that specifically says UK or get one a universal one that will work with multiple outlet types.

Re: outlet adopter for UK?

What do you mean by universal? It depends on the thing you want to adapt.

You need to check your appliance if it can be adapted or converted.

240v (or 230v) is what is needed to adapt appliances. There should be a tag on the appliance saying 120-250v or 50-60hz.

So what it is that you want to adapt?

Phones and tablets are universal and you just need a standard adaptor.

Hairdryers and straightening and curling irons sometimes will not work because of the voltage. Getting a converter is a waste of money. Three pin adaptors is the smart way to go (and leave the 120v appliances at home). I had a hairdryer blow out out a fuse because the voltage wasn’t correct with an adaptor.

Let me know, because I’m kind of an expert in this.

She needs to check the voltage of her appliance. If it can only be used at 120v, then it will not work in the UK unless she has a converter.

It should look like this:

That’s an adaptor. You may find ones without the bottom pin, but the bottom pin is safer.

She said it was for her phone and specified that it was an adapter not a converter so I didn’t mention the converter. Just the adapter.

OK. I just wanted to mention the other stuff because usually people want to use it for other things. I have a lot of things that I use adaptors here for.

iPads and iPhones are dual voltage, but I’d check anyway. It’s on the plug.
