Re: Outlets or local

You couldn't pay me enough to go there during the holiday shopping season.

They have bus tours scheduled several times a day there.

It's a major tourist destination.

Plus, I feel outlets in general are hit or miss.

Re: Outlets or local

We tried to go to Woodbury once on Black Friday. It took us SIX HOURS to drive the last 9 miles there. Never ever ever again!

Eta every store had a line to get in as well! DH and I went to the food court, used the bathroom and pretty much went back home because we didn't have it in us to wait anymore!

This. I had to go to a store today for something and it made me realize I hate society. I will not set foot in a store until January.
Plus IMO there are no good deals at any outlet. It's all bullshitt

The only time to go to Woodbury Commons during the holiday season is on a weekday right as it opens.

Their lots fill up on a regular holiday weekend - and they bus from other exits on the Thruway.

Not worth it.

I've never been to Woodbury, but I was just at Tanger in Riverhead on Sunday morning & was surprised at how calm it was. Maybe because it was before noon, but BR had a 50% off sale & it wasn't a complete wreck.I was also surprised b/c I also don't find outlets to me much of a bargain. They also had more colors than BR has right now, which is what I do find useful about outlets. Sometimes that have last seasons things, etc which is good when the store moves on to the next season too early.

I wouldn't go on Black Friday though. There is really no need to. There are sales now, there will be sales after.

I wasn't Christmas shopping-- we just happened to be in the area, so DH went to look for a pants to replace a pair he had from there that got ruined.

I find Woodbury Commons slightly crazy on a regular weekday. It's not too far from where I live, maybe 45 minutes, but no way in hell will I go anywhere near there during the holidays. Chat Icon More and more I'm doing most of my shopping online.

Re: Outlets or local

Just as a FYI we drove past there heading home around 5:30 tonight. Their lots already looked full and the traffic headed North on 87 was starting.

There were lots of signs warning to be prepared for traffic at that exit today and tomorrow.

You couldn't pay me to go to Woodbury on a regular day, never mind this weekend. I have been to Riverhead during the holidays (including Christmas Eve) and I've never seen it nearly as crazy as Woodbury. It's nowhere near empty, but it never seems overly crazy to me. It's also significantly easier to navigate.

Re: Outlets or local

I have never shopped on Black Friday before. I always shop from home online. But my friend was at Deer Park Outlets today and told me that it was pretty empty. So I took a chance. I shopped for 2 hours, got almost everything I went there for and hardly waited on a line. When I left at 1:30 it started to get busy. I heard the malls were pretty packed though. Probably because it's so cold out and the outlets doesn't have big department stores. A lot of good deals there.

It really wasn't bad at all. And the deals were pretty good. Discounted prices plus you can use coupons. Only place that wasn't such a great discount was Ann Taylor Loft. Their prices are outrageous to begin with and even with the 60% off, I would have been paying $40 for a sweater. No thank you!

So next year, I may try it again
