over 40

I am in my early 40's, considering a career change. I have been told my many people not to waste my time that districts are likely to hire younger people. Obviously they can't deny you due to age due to the law, but they can assume your age by many things.

Any advice?

I am looking to teach in MS or HS, either bus or home ec?

thanks!

I have seen many career changes and I think it is easier in the MS/HS

but where it is tough - is that you have to pay your dues...subbing, leave replacements (sometimes at sub pay) KWIM? It's easier to do that when you are young and don't have family obligations.

I also think sometimes schools like career changers, b/c they don't usually fall into drama, like the young ones do.

Re: over 40

thanks -

I am not sure for the need for subbed and leaves in these areas, as most bus teachers and home ec are older.

May the sub thing.

Someone I know when to college for the home ec thing and got a job after school - I am just concerned being a little older

Again if anyone has any advise I would so greatly appreciate it.

I don't think that being older is that big of a deal if you have no experience.

The age thing comes into play when you have previous teachiing experience because they have to pay you more. So it's not the age as much as the price tag.

I say go for it if it is what you want to do.
