Overprotective
DS is 8 months and just learning to crawl. With the exception of his bedroom, our whole house is hardwood floors. I have asked my DH to be very careful with him when he's on the floor and despite my requests once a day I hear my son crying because he hit his head when playing on the floor with my DH. He stops crying within seconds but winds up with a red spot as evidence. I snapped today because DH's attitude is boys get bumps and bruises and I need to get over it. He thinks I am being much too overprotective and feels that I am critisizing his parenting.

Re: Overprotective
I was totally the same as you. Chris is all rough and tumble with our son where as I am very protective and careful about where he walks, what he holds when he walks, making sure he has socks on, jacket on, not playing near furniture (you get the idea). I would get so angry at him when they are roughhousing and Athan bumps his head or something... but now... almost a year later... I just realize it's a part of being a baby. They will fall, and get bumps, and if you don't over react when that happens, they (the babies) tend to shake it off and keep going. As much as I would love to put Athan in a bubble and protect him forever, I can't. Besides that, seeing how happy he is an how much he smiles when he plays with the daddy, rolling around on the floor... I just have to smile and know it's ok. But in the meantime, maybe you can suggest they put a blanket on the floor before they start playing?

Re: Overprotective
Both of our DC got tons of bumps and bruises, while either of us were watching them. It's not a gender issue (child or parent). Unless DC is wrapped in bubble-wrap, they will get bumps. It's a natural part of their learning process.
