Overwhelmed/Time Management
I just have soooo much going on right now...so busy, so many things to do, that I am feeling overwhelmed.
The worst thing is that work feels like it's a "waste" of time...I have to spend 8 - 9 hrs here and all it feels like is that it's taking time away from me being able to get stuff done.
It's gotten so bad that I forgot my niece's birthday was Wednesday so now my MIL and SIL are both mad at me because we sent no gift, no card, no phone call even.
I've gone to bed no earlier than midnight every night this week and so I'm positively exhausted. And everyday something new gets thrown on my plate.
So what do you do when you have to-do lists (in your personal life) that are a mile long and there just aren't enough hours in the day? I guess I need time management advice...

Re: Overwhelmed/Time Management
I'd start with:
-delegating some stuff to DH if it is possible.
-drop off laundry at the laundromat
-get a cleaning person for the time being
-keep a calendar, pencil in all the imprtant dates for the year

Re: Overwhelmed/Time Management
can you delegate? - ask your dh to take some stuff off the list
or prioritize order of importance - what is coming up first etc?
that is what I usually do but inevitably when you stratch something off the list, you add something new

Re: Overwhelmed/Time Management
It sounds like it is definitely time to ask for help! DH generally doesn't help out much...So when I am really freaking out I need to tell him EXACTLY what he needs to do. "Go get Boston Market for dinner, wash the floors, do 3 loads of laundry, etc." My mom also helps out when I am freaking out. She often drops off meals to help save time cooking since I work full time and go to school full time. And make your DH be responsible for his family's bdays! No reason you should be shouldering all the blame!

Re: Overwhelmed/Time Management
I'm a HORRIBLE deligater, but thankfully I'm blessed with an AMAZING Husband that helps out with things without me asking...like today is his day off and he's doing laundry, cleaning house, etc.
Recently...I feel like my brain is MUSH... I MUST right everything on a calendar or else I'll forget. I've been known to have soooo much on my plate that I miss appts...over book myself. So a calendar really helps.

Can you take a day or two off work just to catch up?

That's what I was going to suggest.
If work is not busy right now, can you make any personal phonecalls or run errands during lunch?
I've been freaking out lately do but that's because my personal life & professional life are busy at the same time.

This is what I'm thinking...but I'm not sure I have the time...we have a long vacation planned for Christmas time...
DH is a big help, thankfully, but he is also swamped at the moment... it's just been such a juggling act this week for the both of us...
I'm thinking of maybe getting a mother's helper/babysitter to come in this weekend and watch Jake (while I'm home) so I can get things done... got that idea from the cleaning lady idea...so thanks!

Re: Overwhelmed/Time Management
I make to do list in order of importance.
I think the cleaning person/mothers helper is a great idea!
What things do you have going on? If I can help with anything let me know. Also if you are more specific I can think of better ideas

Re: Overwhelmed/Time Management
They have a website where you can put in important dates - birthdays and anniversarys etc and they will email you a reminder. I dont remember the site but it worked for me for a while.
