owwwwwww

Ok...so I think Ive been having some Braxton HIcks on amd off the past few days.... just like a tight feeling that is very brief..

Well before I went to get up and I have this hard VERY sharp pain in the side...(on the left a little above my belly button...) I ignored it and continued to get up and go about what I was doing....

and now this pain just keeps coming back... It feels as if the baby is all to one side poking me with a giant knife...

What the heck is this...????Chat Icon

I'm not sure exactly what it is ( I am not as far along) but NOBODY ever mentioned sharp knife-like pains until my grandmother. Last week she was asking if I was enjoying myself, because in a month or two it will hurt "like someone is poking you with a knife" YIKES!

I've had this. It happened once or twice beginning in the 2nd tri. and I remember at 24 weeks the pain was so sharp (in the same spot--bellybutton region) and prolonged that I called the doctor. She told me that it was not something I should worry about if there were no other issues. It was probably the baby laying on a nerve or something. It went away and I've maybe had it 1-2x after that.

I don't think the trimester matters, just that the baby is getting larger; in fact, I definitely had it at the beginning of tri. 3.

The time I called the doctor the pain had been going on for several hours--overnight as I recall. It was really sensitive to the touch as well. The doctor also said belly button pain is a common complain among pregnant women for whatever reason.

Anyhow, it can't hurt to call your doctor if you're concerned--he/she can hopefully put your mind at rest.

I had this throughtout the end of my third trimester right up until the day before I gave birth. (It was so bad once I had to pull over and someone had to come get me and pull me from my car, couldn't stand up straight and the other the school thought they were calling an ambulance). If it feels like the baby is all on one side, which in my case was absolutely true try lying down on the opposite side for a few minutes and the baby might move. If it keeps up for awhile after that, I would definitely call the doctor.
