pack-n-play, bassinets, co-sleepers, oh my!
Just wondering if anyone can weigh in on this -- I have no idea what I need/want for the baby in terms of sleeping.
We'll have a crib, of course, but I feel like I need something for our bedroom so that I can just reach over and get him/her in the middle of the night for feedings, etc.
I can't decide if I should get a co-sleeper, a bassinet, or just a small pack-n-play (which would be useful for a lot of things I guess).
Opinions???
TIA

We have a pack and play. We didn't see the need to get a bassinet because the pack and play has a bassinet attachment to it.
Of course, we have a crib as well, but for the first couple of months, we are going the pack and play route.

I got a bassinet as a gift and i put a pack and play on my registry either one will suffice i am sure. I also have a crib but the baby will go in the crib probably after 3 weeks.

First time we had a pack-n-play with a bassinet attachment. Next time I want one of the co-sleepers. My daughter got close to the 15 pound weight limit on the pack-n-play bassinet before I was really ready for her to move out.
If money is tight though I wouldn't expect you'll have a huge baby like I did (9+ lbs at birth) and I'd just get the pack-n-play which you can use the play pen part for much longer.

A friend just bought us a bassinet as a gift. I will have a pack-n-play later but I did not like the flimsiness of the mattress for the baby to use it the whole night.
The bassinet had a "better" mattress which you can buy separatelly which you can buy at BRU
We got Kolcraft Cuddle n Care. It's on sale until today at Sears for $74.99.
They have it also at Target and BRU ($79.99-$89.99)
The co-sleepers were too expensive for me. I only agreed to the bassinet for DH's peace of mine. I thought the crib would have been sufficient.

i think pack and play maybe too big for a bedroom... well it woulddef be in my bedroom,
we got a bassinet/co-sleeper, it s was small enough to be in the bedroom and it's converts to a co sleeper so it can be right next to the bed at the bed height....
here's mine..

We are thinking about the Co sleeper..I dont know if they all do but I know that one then converts to a pack and play....

Re: pack-n-play, bassinets, co-sleepers, oh my!
I have the Arms Reach Co-sleeper and I love it. Having the baby so close to me is great and it makes breastfeeding easier because I can stay in bed.
The only drawbacks: I stress a bit about my bedcovers ending up on top of her, so I always have to make sure that they are tucked under me after I get into bed. Also, I was very sore the first several days I was home, and it does make it harder to get into bed- I have to get on at the foot and kind of crawl up. DH and I switched sides for a little while so he was the one next to the baby.

Re: pack-n-play, bassinets, co-sleepers, oh my!
we started with the crib in my room, he slept in there. Then my mother comes for a visit, she is upset that crib is against outside wall and feels that its too drafty...so we bring pack and play in. both items were in my room for a few weeks...then I moved his crib to his room. pack and play is still in my room.

same here. actually, it's the bassinet my grandmother used for my mom and her brothers and then my mom used for me and my siblings. after 3 months, I'm passing it along to my sister, who will then have her own newborn.

I voted for the co-sleeper, because I use mine every night (I have the full size). We have the crib -- he naps in it and the pack-n-play, which he only napped in for about a month and a half (in the living room, he started to refuse to go down in it around 6 weeks).

Re: pack-n-play, bassinets, co-sleepers, oh my!
By the end of one full week, we had Jules in her crib. We had a really good video monitor and we kept that with us at all times. The technology they have now is amazing, you can see everything little breath they take and see the little lights light up as they are breathing.
It was very annoying having to run back and forth all night for nursing, but by 6 weeks she was sleeping 8-10 hours a night so I think it was the best thing for her. She got used to it right away.

Re: pack-n-play, bassinets, co-sleepers, oh my!
We have a pack-n-play and bassinet. DD didn't like the pack-n-play it was too big and open for her. She loved her bassinet and I loved having her next to me. I had her in there for almost 3 months when her head and toes almost touched the edges and I had no choice to move her to her crib, which she now loves. I will need the pack-n-play for when we go upstate to see my in-law's so it's good to have for travel.
