Pageants for little kids.
There is a show on TLC about the child pageants. I feel bad for these kids. The makeup is painted on them and most of the moms are crazy!
When I was a kid my aunt put me in one. I wore no makeup and everyone won a prize
thoughts?

Not a fan of pageants. I think it is more for the moms than the little girls; like the mom is fulfilling her dream of winning a beauty pageant through her daughter. IMHO, I think it is a little pathetic & very sad.

Re: Pageants for little kids.
I understand the idea of boosting self esteem, etc., but it creeps me out.
While she would want to do it in a heartbeat, I wouldn't let my daughter do it. IMO she has the rest of her life to be judged on her looks. Why start that early?

I think you have to ask - who is this REALLY for? The child? Or the parent?

Re: Pageants for little kids.
There was a special on HBO once and I watched it. It broke my heart. These girls had no childhoods. Very sad.

I think years and years ago it was probably innocent. But now with all the makeup and costumes...it's forcing little girls to grow up WAYYYYY too fast. And like someone else said, it's completely the mom living vicariously through her daughter.

Think they are horrible - there are other ways to boost your child's confidence and independence, without basing it on their looks and cutthroat competition

Re: Pageants for little kids.
I am most definitely not a fan. I think all children are beautiful adn talented and to judge them at such an early age is so terrible.
I think makeup should be worn by adults- or on halloween to be a cat or something. Not to try to make a little girl look prettier or sexier.
And I think it is truly more for the parents than for the kids.

They are so creepy. I can't believe people deck out their little girls that way.

Re: Pageants for little kids.
I watched that show last night too ! I felt so bad for those little girls....the moms say how they love it but how many babies were there that couldn't even stand on their own yet ! So sad.
Did you see how much it costs to do these pageants ?? And how the entry fee is almost as much as the prize money ??!!
If they really want to do kids pageants I don't think they should be allowed to wear hairpieces, fake teeth & so much make-up !! Why can't they just look natural ?!

Re: Pageants for little kids.
I was put in one when I was younger... actually a couple, but one stands out the most. My mom had no idea what she was doing and thought it would be fun. She did my hair and didn't put any make up on me. I had to walk down a long 'runway' and answer a question at the end. I thought I did ok until I saw all the other little girls. Some had hair so big I'm surprised they could hold their heads up. And I remember one little girl in particular. When she got to the end of the runway she fluffed out her pink tu-tu monstrosity of a dress and pointed one of her feet so she was standing like a model... I remember thinking it was SO weird! How did she know how to do these things? Needless to say, I was angry I didn't even come close to a prize or anything (even that young you know the difference) and I stopped doing them shortly after.

Re: Pageants for little kids.
I watched the show last night- and I was so sad for the little girls
you could see that the money factor was an issue - when Bella (spelling) won- she was crying b/c she won some of the money back
no kid should have to feel that way - I never knew what my dance lessons or gymnastic classes cost when I was little
the parents would be being a better service for their kids by investing the money they spend on the pageants for college

Re: Pageants for little kids.
They really creep me out. Definitely feel it is for the moms trying to live their lives through their daughters - which I think is pathetic. The whole make-up/hair, fake everything, sexualizing of young girls disgusts me.
