pain after retrieval
Hi All,
I haven't been on in a very long time and would first like to wish everyone good luck on their path to ttc.
I just had my retrieval yesterday and am feeling extremely bloated and have lots of pain. i can hardly bend and walk and when i laugh or cough..it's painful. They told me that i was very close to hyperstimulating and that i should rest as much as possible and drink gatorade. I guess my question to anyone who has gone through this is...is this normal? or should i go in tomorrow to get checked out. I almost feel worse than yesterday.
Any help would be great!
Thx.

Re: pain after retrieval
I had a lot of pain on one side after my retrieval. I was very uncomfortable all over, but especially my left ovary. I would drink a 50/50 mix of water and gatorade and try to pee as much as possible (sorry if TMI) to get as much fluid out of you as possible. Give it a day or two- if you still feel REALLY awful, give them a call..... but by that point you might be going in for your transfer. I mentioned it to them at my transfer and they didn't seem concerned- they said it was totally normal and that some ppl took longer to recover than others. Also you should weigh yourself and make sure you're weight isn't going up.... HTH. GL- feel better.

Re: pain after retrieval
I was very uncomfortable after my 2nd IVF retrieval, but I wasn't at risk for hyperstim. If you are in that much pain, I would go get checked out tomorrow. Does your RE have an on call nurse in the evening? I would call the answering service and ask that a nurse or doctor call you back. Let them know how you are feeling and you would feel better if you could come in for a sono tomorrow.
Good Luck!

Re: pain after retrieval
I had pain after both of my ER......and after I received my BFP, I had (and still have) OHSS, where I gained 15 lbs in 2 weeks and was EXTREMELY uncomfortable.....It will go away, but may take a few days....hang in there and best of luck to you!!

Re: pain after retrieval
The symptoms you are describing sound like hyperstimulation. I had a lot of bloating and some pain right before and for a few days after retrieval. Make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. I like to drink a gatorade/water mixture. If you have trouble breathing or the pain becomes unbearable, call your RE immediately.
ETA: It's not unusual to feel worse a few days after retrieval. In fact, OHSS can kick in 3-5 days after retrieval. High estrogen and many eggs puts you risk for OHSS.

I agree with this 100%....make sure to stay off your feet. If you start to feel nauseaus please call your RE...that's how my severe OHSS started...5 days after retrieval.
