My house is being painted this week and they are moving into the bedrooms today and tomorrow. SO is out of town...is it safe to sleep in the bedrooms...the smell is rough!

Re: Paint Smell ... is it safe?
To be honest, I would NOT sleep in the bedroom tonight. My friend's family is in the contracting business and he almost had a heart attack when I told him that DH and I slept in our bedroom the day we painted it. Apparently, the fumes are kind of dangerous. I'd sleep on the couch.

I think you would be fine for latex based paint. Just keep the rooms well ventillated. The paint dries pretty quickly.
I don't think I could stand the smell of oil based paints and probably wouldn't be able to sleep there.

Re: Paint Smell ... is it safe?
Hmmmm I appreciate all your responses. The smell is pretty bad but the den is being painted today too...so I guess I have to find the least noxious one of them all. I have no friends here yet to stay with either.

I would ask the painters, but most paint you buy these days is latex. I'm not even sure oil house paint is legal in NYS anymore.

i would not sleep in the rooms for a few days. i don't care if it's latex based or what--it's still full of chemicals.

Re: Paint Smell ... is it safe?
I'd give it one night and have all the windows open in the house.
We moved inside our home and it smelled like paint, and it had been done in Oct (we moved in Feb), but no one had aired out the house, or lived there for 3-4 months. We were there for a week and the smell disappeare.d
