Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

We have painting to do in our new apt-- which we close on Thursday!!

I got a quote- and it was way high.. so, we are thinking of doing it ourselves... What did everyone else do?

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

This is one thing we decided to do ourselves. We figured we would try it, and if we didn't like how it turned out, we would hire someone. But we think our paint jobs look great! I say try it yourself first. Good luck!

It's not that difficult to paint yourself....so i would never even think to hire someone.....

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

My friends got the keys to their house last week, and we have been painting in there ever since....Spackeling, painting, ripping down wallpaper...Its fun.

Danielle and I painted our whole apartment too....Why pay someone to do it when we can do it ourselves.

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

I hate painting! Don't have the patience for it.

Maybe if I wasn't working the 70 hour workweeks I am doing now i'd consider it.

But no way no hell.

We've been doing it ourselves. It's a big PITA and I don't doubt that a professional would have done a better job. But it was a budget thing- we feel that if we can do something ourselves, we should, and save the money for stuff we can't do on our own (like electrical work, etc.)

I'm really particular when it comes to painting. Believe it or not I've seen some professional jobs from some sought after painters that aren't as good as they could be.

Painting is mostly having good materials (the best paint and brushes), thorough prep and a very steady hand.

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

We did most of the painting in our house ourselves...but did have to hire a painter for the ceiling and walls in our living room/dining room/entryway area. The ceiling and walls from the entryway area was too high for DH to do.

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

Remember to never cheap out on the brushes, and rollers that you use. In this case it is worth the money to get the expensive rollers and brushes over the cheaper ones.

We learned the hard way when we were painting our apartment. Never again

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

We are painting ourselves. However, if we had more disposable $$$ I'd hire someone to do it (notice I said I - not sure DH would agree with me Chat Icon )

Painting is so boring!

we will be hiring someone to paint. we unfortuntaley can not take time off of work to do it ourselves and the weekends are good either for us, so we want it done fast. we have saved $$$ specifically for painters.

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

we just moved and are attempting to paint the entire house ourselves... if we had the money i would definietly pay someone else to do it... painting hurts!! but it was something we just didnt have the extra money for, especially when there is no furniture in our house yet!!

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

I just hired someone to paint our ceilings and a few rooms. I did a couple already, but the ceilings are impossible for me.

Al's involved with the bigger construction projects going on, so if I want the painting done I have to do it by meyself or hire someone. So I'm doing a little of both.

We are going to paint the whole house and take down wallpaper, we are definitely hiring a professional. This is our brand new home and want it to be done right, JMO.

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

We paid someone to paint 4 rooms for us. I got quotes from 5 different companies and chose one. They were fast, quick and reasonable. They did it all in 1 1/2 days. DH has never painted before and I was pg at the time so it was easier to have someone do it.

I'm in Chicago so I cant offer referrals

We had someone paint our entire new home. When the kids came along, a friend helped us paint the nurseries.

Re: Painting-- You vs Hiring Someone

We hired someone to paint the whole house. DH works really long hours and we rarely see each other during the week, so we didn't want to spend the little time we have together painting.
