Painting during first trimester???
If I wear a mask, is it safe? I have to finish my foyer and we know DH won't finish it anytime soon!

Re: Painting during first trimester???
I read somewhere painting was OK until 3rd trimester.
Personally, I am leaving it for DH. he is going to be painting the nursery this week. He is on vacation from work and I'm not. Perfect time for him to paint since I will be out of the house.

Re: Painting during first trimester???
I still have paint sitting in my front hall closet from MONTHS ago...
I wouldn't do it.
Not unless I could ventilate the whole house with all the windows open, and the winter is just not the time IMO for a preggo to be in a closed house with the heat running, and that smell/fumes running rampant.

Re: Painting during first trimester???
painting is the one thing i won't do. the fumes are too strong and with all the stretching and climbing on ladders, it's just not worth the chance.

Re: Painting during first trimester???
We moved into our house my 3rd trimester and I painted almost 3 rooms. I wore a mask most of the time. The guy at Aboff's lectured me not to paint but my doc said all lead has been removed from paint. I knew the baby was mostly developed at that point too - I might not have done it the first trimester though. Just be careful stretching.

Re: Painting during first trimester???
I painted my dining room and the nursery while I was pregnant but during the spring so all the windows were open. I would ask your dr. Every dr. is different.

Re: Painting during first trimester???
I was too scared to. Plus my dr said to stay away from it. I didn't want to risk it. It wasn't worth it to me.

Re: Painting during first trimester???
those little fiber masks actually serve to concentrate chemical fumes over your nose and mouth.... they're designed for particle matter / dust only. you literally would need a gas mask...
ias a poster above mentioned... the lead has been removed from all paint... that's not the problem... I'm suspicious of the dozens of other chemicals /solvents in the paint. After all, just becuase there are not conclusive reports confirming it's bad for us doesn't mean that it's harmless. Those reports usually lag about a decade behind the products being created
IMO, I'd leave it to family members / DH to do....

This seems entirely backwards to me. I wouldn't go anywhere near the stuff in my 1st trim, whereas, if the room was well-vented and I had a mask, I might consider it in my 3rd. There are a lot of things u "can" do in your 3rd vs. your 1st trim.
