Painting Kitchen Cabinets

Have any of you painted your old kitchen cabinets? If so was it hard to do? Do you love how it came out? Any suggestions or recommendations? If you have pics to share I would REALLY appreciate it!

TIA!!!

Re: Painting Kitchen Cabinets

Our cabinets were painted white so we just repainted them but in a glossy white and used our accent color (sage) to paint the lines on the cabinet doors.

It made the kitchen looks so mich brighter!

Here is a picture...sorry I do not have a before pic...

Re: Painting Kitchen Cabinets

I meant to add that our handles were in the middle of the cabinets, so I filled in the holes, sanded and painted We replaced the handles with new ones that we placed at the bottom of the cabinet doors.

One tip....make sure you wash down your cabinets very good before painting them. I used Murphys Oil soap....works GREAT.

Also, are you cabinets already painted? if so you might not need to prime them but if they werent , you should prime them before painting.

Thanks for sharing! Your cabinets look amazing!! The cabinets are not painted, so we would def have to prime.

How long did it take you to do this?

Re: Painting Kitchen Cabinets

It took a few days...we did 2 coats of paint then had to paint the lines. We also painted inside the cabinets.

I'm thinking about doing this, but first I'm going to paint the vanity in the bathroom - same type of cabinets, but on a smaller scale. I went to a sherwin williams store and asked what I needed to do. I will have to go back and ask them again......I know I need to sand, then do a coat of primer, then paint. i also want to add a glaze to them. I'm sure it will take me 5 times longer then what I want it to!
