Paper as a first anni gift
is that what the couple gives to each other...or what others gift to the couple?
and, who would give the couple a gift? I never thought of doing that, to be honest...

My MOH and best friend's annviersary is one month before mine- I was her MOH as well- and I am pretty sure I am going to get them something-nothing big-but something thoughtful...
I usually get my parents an annviersary gift-
they will probably get us something too
Other than that- not unless people have a party or something-
As for the paper for other people vs for the couple- not so sure - I think it is for anyone

We got personalised stationary from a few people. DH got a dog with "papers" for me. I got him tickets on "paper" for a trip.

For one of my close friends I made her an entire basket of paper things. Even the basket was made from supermarket paper bags. I included notepad that magnet to the fridge, tissues, paper towels, napkins, paper plates.
She loved it

DH and I gave each plane tickets though. That made up for the cardboard TP.

I got him tickets for a concert he wanted to see and he got me cookbooks
Was it the most romantic gift ever? No, but it was meaningful to both of us.
eta - we do not follow the "rules" when giving anniversary gifts to other people

Our first anniversary is in June and DH and I were just joking about giving each other paper gifts. DH really likes framed artwork for the wall. I was thinking of getting him something like that - I figured the print would be "paper."

We went to Bermuda for our 1st anniversary and my parents got us a limo to the airport so I don't think there was any paper going around there (except if you want to talk about the money part!!).

Our gift to each other was our "paper" tickets to Hawaii....I also ordered a personalized Romance novel from somewhere...some cheesy book that had our names and our friends as the characters - I honestly don't think I even ended up reading it but it was like a cute, funny gift. I forgot what DH got for me...it might have been a travel guide for Hawaii, but I don't remember....

My MIL gave us a bag full of TP, Paper towels and paper plates .....
