Pardon me if this is a dumb question, but.....
DS has been drooling a LOT and "chewing" on anything and everythign he gets his hands on.
Does he need to be rehydrated??

Awww, no you don't have to worry about dehydration if he's still got plenty of wet diapers each day.
Sounds like he's teething, you might want to give him a teether to soothe his gums.

Yeah, I broke out the teething rings! I even gave him the vibrating one, but it's a tad too heavt for him to hold up to his mouth!
