Parent conference help needed

I have 1 student who I seriously LOATHE.

There is not 1 redeeming quality about him- he punches and kicks students for no reason, is totally disrespectful and defiant, lazy and does no work.

I have to see his mom (IF she comes in!)
for report card conferences next week.

WTH do I tell her? I mean seriously- NOTHING nice to say at all. And I know they say you should always balance a negative comment with a positive one but how when this kid is the devil incarnate>!>!>!Chat Icon

ETA: many teachers in the building think he is Oppositional Defiant- we've held meetings on his behavior/work but to no avail. Also I am doing a behavior journal everyday (which mom just signs and returns- no comments or acknowlegement) and a bahavior chart for weekly rewards. Doesnt work Chat Icon

Re: Parent conference help needed

IMO, I would have another person in the room with you - guidance counselor, AP. Just from your description, a parent like that may turn your words around. I had a parent like that two years ago - every time the parent came in the AP herself was there as a neutral 3rd party.

I would also bring up your issues more as "concerns" than problems, as in "I am concerned that Johnny is continuing to do XXX, despite our efforts to correct this behavior."

Re: Parent conference help needed

thanks for the suggestion.... the mother seems very confrontational.
I think another person might be a good idea. I 'll ask one of the teachers who has been trying to work with him to sit in with me

Although I doubt she wil even show up- when I called her to schedule a time- she wasnt happy that all I had left open was "too late" for her".
well maybe if you actually signed up for a time when I sent the paper home 2 weeks ago youd have the time you wanted!
