Parenting Style

Does anyone not agree with family or friends parenting style? I feel like I am constantly telling my sister to watch her mouth around my nieces and nephew. Just in plain conversation she will curse or say inappropriate things in front of them. It causes me concern since I am pregnant I don't want my child to be subjected to that.

Re: Parenting Style

well me and my sil just had babies the same time as each other and while they are only 8 weeks old right now I can tell that she's a much more laid back mom than I am. She has been leaving the baby since birth with sitters ( realatives and friends) whereas I hate leaving the baby- I cant tell already that there is going to be a difference of opinion on alot of things. I hate always having to defend my parenting style though to them but what can I do. I just take every situation at a time.

Re: Parenting Style

My friend curses in front of her kids all the time. That's why they have the mouths of truck drivers.

Re: Parenting Style

I certainly don't agree with DH's Aunt's parenting style. She has alcohol every day (usually having a beer with breakfast Chat Icon) and has proceeded to get drunk in front of her children at every family occasion that I've ever been to. Her language is terrible (her daughter has gotten in trouble for cursing at school and she's only in Kindergarten) and I wonder sometimes if she's even fit to be a mother.
Also, our landlords, who are also our friends. Their situation confuses me a bit. They have two daughters and the one daughter gets treated like gold while they completely neglect the other. Their youngest daughter gets plopped in front of the TV all day and basically gets ignored and they wonder why she's 2 years old and she can't talk yet.

Oh yes. Even though DS is only 6 weeks old, I know there is going to be a big difference in parenting style between me and my SIL who just had her 2nd baby girl in April.

Her eldest is a terror because she was SO spoiled. The child is the fussiest eater you'll ever meet because her parents used make her whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. She owns the TV where ever her parents take her. But I think they started to learn their lesson when she starting violently hitting her mother in public (she left bruises)when she didn't get what she wanted.

Unfortunately, my MIL seems to think she is God's gift to parenting so I can already hear "Well, your SIL does it this way..." Chat Icon

Re: Parenting Style

Yes but for different reasons. And I am 100% sure the person who I don't agreewith her parenting style does not agree with mine.

To each her own.

Re: Parenting Style

I have a older sister who is the greatest mom of three kids and I actually am very lucky. I learned alot form her parenting styles.. and I think it has made me a more laid back mom for it. I agree with her parenting skillsmost of the time.... and she is ALWAYS there when i need her even if sh eis to busy she will answer my question and then call me back.

and the funniest thing is last mothers day my MIl wrote in my card that she thinks that i am a great mother and it is something that she totally did not expect...

my opinion on people who compare other mothers... I am in a playgroup with 7 woman and we are each a totally different type of mother.. sometimes people should just keep their opinions to themselvesChat Icon
