I never thought of this!!!...DS is too young to go trick or treating, but you bet I will be decorating my wagon and having a cold one!

I have to admit, I never thought of it either but I am grateful this thread was bumped because it has given me a great idea for next year when DD is old enough to go trick or treating.
Much like booze at baby showers, it will help make an otherwise torturous time a little more fun!!!

My next door neighbor's house is the drink "pit stop" on our block. He builds a fire, bbq's, we bring over wine and cheese and the parents hang for a bit, maybe they take a road soda w/ them, and then they carry on.
Fun for all!!!

Honestly, I don't think there is anything wrong with this-in fact it sounds like a great idea....haha...
Unless parents are acting inappropriately and getting intoxicated to the point where they are unable to watch their children then I don't see this as horrible.

Uh oh!
I ToT with my kids in West Sayville yesterday. With a large group of people. At one friends house, he came out with a bowl of candy for the kids and a bowl of Stella for the adults. It was a joke, it was funny, 4 of our group took a beer. I didn't for one second think - "Holy Crimminy! My friends have all turned into low lives who care more about having a BEER than hanging with their kids!". Each one of the parents in that group is extremely loving, attentive people and not a single one is an alcoholic and most don't even drink regularly. MOST of their days/evenings are spent devoted to their children. So it would be massively unfair of me to judge them for drinking a beer while spending time with their kids... because ALL of their time is spent with their kids.
Also.. if this group was south of Montauk between West and Atlantic, it was probably another group of friends of mine who had gone out ToT earlier (without adult beverages) - but had been invited to a party on West and decided to walk the coolers (one with beer and one filled with juice boxes for the littles) over and let the kids show their costumes off to a few neighbors/friends that hadn't been home earlier on the way. And since 2 of the people don't drink they didn't have beer in THEIR cups. I don't know if that was the group you saw or if knowing more of the story would make a difference if it was them. But... that's just a little story about drinking and ToT from my perspective.
see now that makes sense if they were on their way to a party by foot. I'm just a little shocked bc I just wouldn't walk around town drinking, at all, ever. Isn't it illegal to walk around in public with open containers? I thought it was. I've sat at a restaurant and had a beer next to my son, or had a glass of wine at home...but I wouldn't walk around the streets going door to door while drinking.

Always a classic that pops up year after year!
This is totally our neighborhood wagon train and it's harmless and fun. No drunken parents losing control of their children. And not every parent is partaking. I'm pregnant this year so not me but man there's nothing like a cold beer on a crisp Autum day!

LOL, I made it like 5 pages in before I saw it was old...but let me tell ya, I saw it for the first time today and thought it was awesome
We also had hot chocolate, cookies and cupcakes in the wagon for the kids, and the adult beverages were in a bag being carried by one of the dads. Also, I've never seen a group of parents more in control of their kids and making sure they weren't running out into the street, getting up on lawns whenever a car came, etc. Already looking forward to next year..
