That is absurd.... really.
I understand the point behind having food guidelines for schools. But talk about taking guidelines out of context!!
And FTR, even though a potato is not a grain, it is a starch and I would think fulfilled the requirement, if you were adhering to the sentiment of the law and not the letter of it.

They were fined bc they DIDN'T send Ritz crackers lol.
This is ridiculous...and with that $10 I hope they go purchase a healthier "grain" to supplement with!!!!

I agree...and clearly the lunch that was packed for them was a well-thought out meal. Not the meal of a child who is potentially lacking nutrition at home.

Ritz crackers aren't even that great- I bet the non-reduced fat have saturated fat. That lunch was fine. The mom made a great point about the junk she could have sent instead which would have met the "policy."

I personally wouldn't consider a Ritz Cracker a suitable grain even if it does contain wheat.

Double fines for you. There are only Ritz and Club. And Saltines if your tummy hurts.

I think they are overstepping. It is not the school's place to tell me what I feed my child.

Me neither!!! This story makes my blood boil! A home cooked meal isn't good enough, so lets give processed crap?!? There is no common sense left in the world!

Not to mention they charged $10 for these Ritz Crackers? On what planet do a few Ritz Crackers cost $10??? To me that is robbery! I would be raising a riot over this with the school! Insane!
