Parents of 3 & 4 year old...

When did your children learn to buckle themselves in their car seat/booster seat?

Just curious how many DC are doing this independentlyChat Icon

DD is 3 1/2...and I have never taught her how to do it. I am afraid if she knows how to buckle it...she will also unbuckle it while I'm driving.

DS is 3. He has no idea how to do it and I don't plan on showing him just yet.

Ditto, but DS. Maybe when I move him to a booster and he uses the regular seatbelt then I will let him do it.

same for my 3 1/2 year old. She can fully do it when she isn't actually in the seat(so can my 28 month old) but I think at the angle that she is when she is sitting in it is too hard for her to do the bottom part.

Re: Parents of 3 & 4 year old...

Thanks for everyone's responses...

I taught my girls how to do this & I always check to see that the buckles are secure.

I am just wondering when I move them to booster seats which prob won't be until 4 since they won't meet the weight requirement anytime soon of 40lbs....Should I expect them to just strap themselves in the backrow all by themselves?

FYI... I have a SIL who has been doing this with all of her kids since 3 and just wanted to hear everyone's opinionsChat Icon

Re: Parents of 3 & 4 year old...

My son has been buckiling himself in since he was 3. my daughter buckes the top clip on the seat belt, but the bottom one is still to tough for her. She is tall enough for the booster seat, but she needs to gain a little weight to make that requirement. I'm sure once that happens she will be able to compeletly buckle herself in. She turned 3 in January
