Parents with cats
Right now, its just DH and me, but we have a second bedroom that will be our baby's room when the time comes. In the meantime, I was thinking of keeping the litter box and their toys and stuff in there. My mother doesn't think its a good idea at all to let them get used to being in that room, cause once we have a baby in there they shouldn't be allowed in.
Is she right? Should I not get them used to hanging out in the second bedroom?

Re: Parents with cats
I don't have cats, but I know with my dogs it was harder to keep them out of the spare room once I made it "their room." We took them out as soon as I got PG, and they still fight me to get into that room.

I guess I have to reconsider this whole making the spare room "their room" now.
Thanks!

I wouldn't make it their room - cats can be territorial and then you'll be in for a fight when you try to kick them out!

We moved our cat out of the baby's room and into the computer room. At first it was a little hard, but, he adjusted quickly. I didn't want the cat in with DS, we don't even let him in our room because of the shedding.

Re: Parents with cats
I agree with your MIL. We had the same problem. In our old house Zoe had one bedroom to herself, had we stayed there and had the twins there... oh boy. It was bad enough that she had to be put on Prozac when we wee selling the house and moving.
I made sure when we moved into the new house that she was trained not to go upstairs. She has the run of the livingroom, diningroom and her litter box is in the basement. My DC have their space and Zoe has hers... at least for now

This is exactly what we did. They adjusted right away. We did it months before DS arrived though.

Re: Parents with cats
I really don't see anything wrong with it. I live in an apartment and I don't ever have the need to keep the cat out of the babies room.

Definitely do not make it the cats' room! They are so territorial and will definitely be p!ssed when you make it the baby's room. I know my cats are still mad at us for bringing Ava home

We have a cat and I agree that the cats will get used to the idea, then might be spiteful when you try to kick them out.
