Parents with school age DC. ? about birthday parties.
I am torn about what to do, I really can't afford to pay the extra fee for siblings that attends DS party but I feel like c rap for saying that siblings aren't welcome. I don't want to hurt feelings.
Would you be offended if your DC was invited to a classmates party and your other DC weren't?

I wouldn't be offended at all. I would never even ask to bring a sibling to a birthday party of my other child's classmate.

ITA!
Are people really ballsy enough to think that ALL of their kids are invited to someone's birthday party??! If my friend had a party growing up, my sister wouldn't go!

Re: Parents with school age DC. ? about birthday parties.
I have 2 kids. When one is invited to a party, I assume that the other is NOT invited unless it specifically says "Siblings Welcome". Each party I have thrown for the kids, I have welcomed the sibs - but have never once been taken up on that offer!
I would address the envelope to the child you are inviting. And when the mothers call be certain to say "Okay - we are really happy that "Name of Child" will be joining us." It sends a clear message that he is the only one invited.

I have a 7 year old and we never invited school friends siblings. Only family friends. I would never assume that anyone would invite my other kid to their party. I so not think it even needs to be said, I think it is assumed.

Not at all. I wouldn't expect a sibling to be invited. Even now with close friends as the kids are getting older and the different genders and age gap actually make a difference we don't invite siblings. I really don't think people expect classmate birthdays to be a family event.

I wouldn't expect it either - unless it is mentioned that it is okay to be a sibling.

My kids have never been invited to a school party where their siblings were invited. I don't expect it and I don't know anyone who does. I don't think you should worry about it.

Thanks for all the replies. I am glad to hear that I won't be offending anyone. I was stressing over this all weekend.

I agree. DS and DD are 3 years apart. DS has been to quite a few b-day parties. DD has never gone to them. The only time siblings should be invited, is if they are twins....
